I've seen a few posts about teacher appreciation for the elementary school, but what about middle and high school? In middle school the PTA, arranged for a teacher breakfast. Does anyone do anything for the high school teachers? Any thoughts or ideas?
I teach sophomores and like the other posts, even a card would be lovely. A couple of years ago I had one class where everyone got together and got me a gift basket with Expo Markers, Sharpies, fun pens, and a Starbucks gift card. It was so sweet!!
I think I would faint if a student did anything for me during teacher appreciation week. :) I teach juniors and seniors, and I'm well-liked, but I've never gotten a thing during this week. It's alright; I love my students and my job. Students write kind notes throughout the year for various classes and organizations where they have to pick a teacher and write about how much they appreciate them, and I get lots of those. They brighten my day more than a store-bought gift. The PTA sometimes provides a nice luncheon or snacks, and that is much appreciated, and I do get thoughtful gifts sometimes at Christmas and occassionally at the end of the year. I think it's sweet that you even thought to ask the question. :)
Yeah, the gift-giving tends to fizzle out by about the 5th grade. But, it is still nice to at least acknowledge your student's teachers. If there are a lot of them, something as simple as a hand-written note or even an e-mail, thanking them for their service is great. If you want to give a gift, a Starbucks, Panera, or Target gift card in a small denomination (like $5 or so) is nice.
Our parent association is doing breakfast for us tomorrow.
It will include bacon.
I'm thrilled beyond belief. (Truly - I love bacon!)
The student council kids at my high school make breakfast for all the teachers in our culinary lab and restaurant. Plus, each day in our box we get a note or a candy bar or some such token. One year, our booster club had the shop teacher engrave glasses with our school name and mascot and held a root beer float party...and we got to keep the engraved glasses. All were great fun and much appreciated.

local coffee shop, food places close to the school campus.
She had one Spanish teacher that loved Dr. Pepper. 1 week the grocery store had 3 /12 packs for $10.. He was thrilled. He drinks them all day.
I think teachers of any grade like to be shown appreciation. It's a little different when your kids are older because the cute things you give elementary teachers aren't as apropriate for middle and high school teachers. I work in a school, and treats in the teacher's lounge are always welcomed. We joke that you could put chocolate covered q-tips in there and someone would eat them! Today some of the parents brought fruit trays and left the them in the work room for us with a card. Everyone enjoyed that. If your child has a favorite teacher, a gift card to a local mall or a gas card or something would be great. It is just nice that you are thinking of them.

There is no PTA at our high school. Any teacher appreciation they get is directly from the parents. I send letters to the principal with a copy to the teachers telling them what great teachers I think they are and why. I've done it for years. My kids' middle school band teacher takes his out and reads it when he gets discouraged... It's nice.
The letters go in their permanent files and they do help at review time.
