I bought my son the foam door hangers and foam stickers to decorate from Michael's. Each of his teachers got an original. I bought a pack of ten Thank You cards from the $1 section in Target. So it was a total of $1.75 per teacher:) Easy on the wallet when you have 7 teachers to buy for.

Hi E.D.,

I made a banner for each teacher and the kids wrote a nice message in the petals for my son's teacher and for my daugher's teacher they wrote in hears. One banner said.... Mrs. Odon, thanks for helping us bloom. The other banner said... Mrs. Urso, you put your heart into teaching us. (We presented these banners today before they went in their classrooms.) I had the kids give me their hearts/petals last week and I arranged everything on banners at home before bringing them in today.

Besides this, I am making desserts for the staff's luncheon which is tomorrow and I am bringing in a few flavored cream bottles for their coffee for their breakfast on Wednesday that the PTO is doing. (all staff is invited)

Everyday my children will bring in something small as a token of their/my appreciation.
Monday (flower) with a note attached: Thanks for helping me bloom.

Tuesday (candy) with a note attached: You are so sweet to me.

Wednesday (pretty rocks) with a note attached: You ROCK!

Thursday (fortunate cookies) note will say: I am fortunate to have you as my teacher.

Friday (gift card to coffee shop) note will say: Thanks "a latte."

Besides my kids writing their own letters of appreciation to their teachers, I will write my own note to each of them. I will also be giving a little trinket to their special teachers. (P.E., Fine Arts, Computer)

I am one of those people who like to compliment others for a job well done. I think so many of them at the school are doing an amazing job and they deserve to be praised. (Yes... and I am a former teacher so I've been on both sides of the fence.) Many families (including mine) also pitch in $20 per family to buy a gift card for the principal, special teachers, nurse, custodians and special teachers every December.

I hope this helps!

J.

I am hoping to find time before Friday to make some cookies or candy or something like that. We can't afford to do gift cards several times a year, but I do them at Christmas. It's always hard at our school to know what to do, because all the teachers help each other out, especially in the preschool (it's a private preschool & elem--son is in pre, daughter is in elem) so I never know who I should be giving things to--I think I left out one of the aftercare teachers for Christmas. He wasn't there on the day I gave the gift cards, so I didn't realize the omission until much later.

I may try to see if my daughter will draw pictures for her 2 main teachers.

All nice ideas :-) My daughter is still a toddler, but I am a teacher. We got nothing except a book from our administrator on - guess what - what we should be doing to be better teachers.
It's the thought that counts?

My older daughter is in middle school so sadly probably nothing! My younger is in a Toddler room at the daycare I work at in another Toddler room. She is giving her teacher a basket with 4 packs of stickers (big packs from Target $1/each), bubbles, sidewalk chalk ($1), and a giant Reese's. Not a lot but some stuff for fun with the kids or to take home to her 20 month old and a little something for her. Also every year the parents get together and donate money and cater lunch - tomorrow it's Quadoba (similar to Chipolte) other years it has been baked potato bar & a mexican bar that they provided, catered from Skeeter Barn and from Olive Garden.

I think it is important to give them something for appreciation. My son is in Prek at a private catholic school. He has his main teacher and several others such as computer lab, PE, librarian, before/after school care. I always get each of them something on holidays/special occasions. I am unable to spend a lot of money so I try to come up with different ideas and make things. For Teacher Appreciation I went to Michael's Craft Store and bought small chalk boards (99 cents each) and then I bought teacher type scrapbook stickers (1.99-3.99 per sheet). I glued the stickers onto the chalk board but left room in the middle that she can use to write a note or something. I also made mint tins with scrapbook stuff. I did not spend more then $20 and had something for each of his teachers. Oh, I also bought a pack of thank you cards and wrote each of them a note from my and had my son write his name on the card.

When my kids were in elementary school my oldest had Mr. X for 3rd grade, then he became a 5th grade teacher so she had him again in 5th grade and my youngest had him in 5th grade. He was one of those teacher's who went above and beyond and really tried to help all his students. As a thank you to him, as well as all the teachers that go above and beyond, I wrote a letter to the editor, naming him personally.
