Teacher Gift - Louisville,KY

For the past two years I have gotten my kids teachers a pint of ice cream from a local place that makes it all in house. This place is amazing! The teachers loved it and when they saw this was their gift this year too they were excited!

I've got teachers in the family. They don't need (or want!) another candle, ornament or mug or hand lotion! Lol
Gift cards--food or gas--or to a craft store. Teachers spend a LOT of their own money on supplies!
And, of course, a sincere note of thanks.

I have it on good authority that teachers love gift cards, so that's what we always do (some of my best friends are teachers and I also have 3 in our family). They also *love* a sincere note or hand-made card.

Last year my som got his teacher a gardenprnament ( a humming bird ona stick) and sunflower seeds. He also made her a card. I knew that she enjoyed gardening so it was perfect for her.

If you know some of the teacher's personal interests that is a good direction to go. I am a teacher and would prefer an outdoor plant to an indoor since I can always find a place for it outside but my house is quite small. you can add a note thanking the teacher for helping your child "grow and blossom" throughout the year :)

I dont think teachers expect gifts and do not think it is necessary or required. However I do feel like it is a very kind gesture and if you can and are willing that you should. If you are giving something common (a gift card, a mug, lotion, cookies, school supplies, etc) I think you should ask yourself if you receive 100 (1,000?) of these would that be ok? gift cards? oh sure. mugs? lotions? where to put them what to do... cookies? maybe???? school supplies? probably. I know that not everyone will give the same thing but I think that can help. For a teacher you do want it to be something they can get use out of.

One year my daughter had an outstanding teacher. During teacher appreciation week, I wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper "Thank you to Mr. X and other teachers like him who continually go above and beyond.....".

a plant/flowers
homemade baked goods - can be tricky if there are dietary restrictions, she can always share with family, friends or coworkers
a handwritten note
a card made by your child
something for the classroom - like a book
my daughter had a teacher who frequently sent home notes - I gave her a collection of note cards

I don't really understand why teachers receive gifts ? I get that they are providing something for the kids, but so do all service professions ... and presumably teachers are paid? Seems like a racket to me.

I was a teacher and the best gifts for me were gift certificates to teacher supply stores or book stores. I spent so much of my own money in the classroom.

I used to teach FT years ago. I enjoyed getting hand-written notes from the kids. I did not like getting mugs. I only use soy candles, so, I would give the candles away. The best gift was a ten dollar gift card to my absolute favorite tea cafe !

Please stay away from lotions, perfumes, mugs. Teachers appreciate gift cards, even if just Dunkin Donut and a thank you note. Usually teacher gifts stopped at first grade. It can get to be too much for families that have several kids.

i do gift cards for teachers throughout the year, end of year gift is usually a reading device. this year she is getting a nook hd + (got it at a really awesome price).
to the one who said, don't know why teachers get gifts, i say because they have to put up with your kids and mine 9 months of of a year, and then teaching them. i say,they do plenty. i only cook, clean, entertain, though they are my own flesh and blood and come mother's day, i better be appreciated, so teachers deserve it much much more.
