The nicest gifts I have received (as a teacher) were the hand written complementary letters that were sent to my administrators about me.
Hi again mamas!
It's that time of year and yet again am looking for some suggestions for teacher gifts. My son is in 5th grade. His teacher was out having cancer treatment for the first 5 months of the school year. Her husband was her long term substitute. I would like to get them each something or something as a couple. I really don't have more than $20 total to spend. I just want to make sure to say thank you as they both really like my son and some days he's a pretty challenging kid.
Thanks, S.

I'm a high school teacher and have always enjoyed either getting something with photos or a written letter. Also the gift cards like everyone else mentioned are great. I also loved it when students would go somewhere for a trip or spring break and bring me back a little souvenir. It was always a surprise, and I loved that they thought about me. Even if it was a mug or a key chain I always treasured it.
Hey S.,
I was an elementary school teacher for 17 years and although I loved the many mugs, teacher jewelry and desk stuff, bath gel, candles, etc. that I received, I really appreciated the gift cards the most. I allowed me to treat myself to some well needed TLC without having to spend a cent. Some of the gift cards I received were for Target, the movies, a favorite restaurant, Barnes and Noble, and one year all my class went in on a pass for Disneyland. Maybe you can talk to your teacher and figure out what they enjoy and get something related to that.
Go with a gift certificate to a restaurant. Maybe some other folks can chip in and you guys can treat them to the actual meal!
I have been a teacher for 12 years. I always like the gift cards most- Starbucks, Target, movie, grocery store- they're all great. You don't have to spend much, I really appreciated the $5 gift cards to Starbucks.
I'm not sure where you live but I know here in SD there are many places to go for half price gift certificates. Check radio and TV station websites, groupon.com, even other local news websites (SDNN.com). You can find great deals for restaurants, walking tours... all sorts of things!!!
Kudos to the husband/substitute teacher for stepping up while his wife was going through treatments!!!
I teach high school so It's not quite the same thing but the best gifts are frome the kids themselves. Sometimes I will find little notes in my school mailbox that kids have written just to thank me. They're on scrap paper and the handwriting is difficult to read but I keep them and treasure them because I know that they're authentic. One gift I'll always remember (because I have it on the wall of my house) is a poem a student wrote, illustrated and framed for me. ...just beautiful
hello, teachers love home made cards from the kids and gift cards for book stores and casual restaurants like Chilli's, soup plantation, etc.
A gift card to a local restaurant or to the movies.
Hi S.,

I'd do a gift card, or depending on how well you know them, a bottle of wine. i truly feel any of my sons teachers need a drink after a day w/ him. Borders or a movie theater, Starbucks, a place they can go together....
I'm in the mood for brownies... so that's on my list. But the movie gift card would also be high on my list of "goodies" I'D really appreciate.
I have a Avon consultant who just contacted me about that very thing. She is putting together Teacher Baskets for male and female teachers. Both my daughters have female teachers so I chose the baskets accordingly. The best thing is they are only $10.00 each and a great little gift to let them know they are appreciated. The baskets I chose are foot care baskets with polish, foot lotion and some other foot care items. Another idea, if you have a Lakeshore Learning Center store near you (or they can use the website) you can get them a gift card. Our teachers around here are always excited about that. If you want to contact the Avon Rep I used, let me know. Good luck but remember, I think the teachers will appreciate anything they receive!

My son has 2 teachers this year. They love gift cards to the book store or Target. For Christmas I got them personalized note cards from Expressionary.com. Check out their website and look in the clearance section. Also check on line for coupons. They have really nice personalized cards and note pads and with the discount and clearance I spent about $18 for both sets together where they normally would have cost over $30 each.
Hope this helps!
