My son's teacher has been out on maternity leave for the beginning of this school year. We have had a long term sub the entire time. She is wonderful! We would love to do something for her on her last day but I am out of creative ideas! We were going to have a little party and ask the art teacher to help the kids with thank you cards, but what to do about a gift? Any ideas or thoughts? Teachers out there....what was your favorite or most thoughtful gift you have received? Or would LOVE to receive??? Thanks!

What can I do next?

No matter what else you do... Write a letter to the district!!! Have all the parents sign it. Giving her a copy as well for when she's applying to work out of that district would be VERY helpful.

Unless she has another substituting job lined up she will be out of work. I would give her cash. I think cash/gift card is the nicest gift to give to teachers anyway. I like the Thank you card idea too.

Also get a CLASS photo of the kids... to give to her.
That will be a nice memento for her.
And add any other photos you have of her and the class.
That means, a Mom can take random photos of the class, for this reason.
And then, put it all into a 3 ring binder type "book" as a souvenir album, for her.
Having photos of the class/kids, is always a real nice 'gift.'
In addition to thank you cards etc.

I nix the christmas ideas. Is will be the beginning of Nov that she leaves right??

You could get creative and do like a flower pot with Lots of different gift cards in it. Ask each kid to donate $3 the go get $20 at one resturant and $20 at another.

If someone sew you could get her a nice bag and put the kids signature on it, or buy her a cute tote from somewhere and have it personalized.

if she celebrates Christmas you can get an ornament that includes small pics of your kids. Thats a way that she will remember you. Picture frames with pics in them or alone are always nice. Decorative ones. Our teacher uses then for her desk at her new school

I think a nice gift card would be appreciated. Then she can get what she wants or go out to eat if you do a restaurant one.

Writing the letter to the district is a good idea-I like that, and giving her a copy of the letter.

Another thing that my mom used to do for my teachers growing up (and I did this for teacher appreciation day in HS and it was a big hit) was we would get an assortment of candy and put it in a coffee mug. It's very simple, but you can decorate it however you want and so forth.
