All of the parents chipped in and I ordered preschool themed watches for both teachers. They are really cute and reasonably priced. I also had each parent help their children write a thank you note for the "time" they've invested in the children. I'm binding all of the notes into a book to accompany the watches.

I blogged about this back in October. As a retired teacher...I think it is good advice.

Gift cards with a note telling her how great she was, have your child sign it or also write a note.

Coffee shops, Teacher supply stores, book stores, restaurants, bakery, movie tickets.

Teacher do not need things. Imagine all of the classes they have taught and all of the holidays they have been given things.. They do not need bath stuff, mugs, teacher decorated stuff, frames, photo albums, scrapbooks.. They have tons of them they have not even used once..

Gift cards are always great and rarely wasted!

Please please please avoid candles, mugs, scented hand lotions, trinkets, etc. Honestly, when I cleaned out my office before taking another job I threw out boxes of that stuff. Most of my teacher friends do the same.

Some of my favorite "thank you" gifts (honest) were hand-written notes from my students and their art work. I have framed many of them and they cover my office as I type! Each one reminds me of a child and their story.

One particulary difficult child (severe emotionality and learning needs) told his mother that I needed a "day off" after the year I had with him. His parents (wealthy) "surprised" me with a spa day prescheduled two weeks before my wedding. It was overwhelmingly thoughtful. Not typical, but what made it special was the fact that it was the child's idea and that it reflected the relationship we had.

We have given gift cards, candles, gift baskets, book cases with kids hand prints (kindergarten), tote bags with kids signatures, director's chair with teachers name on front and kids names on back. Those are just a few ideas that I have helped with for my kids teachers.

We have given gift cards to Starbuck's as well as bouquets of flowers. They really appreciated them and even took the time during the summer to send my kids thank you letters.

Everyone should do this and something personal or a gift card she can use for herself is the best idea.

I just bought ours today. I bought some nice water bottles $7 each, but clearenced for $5. I know they are nice because I've been using one just like them for the past 5mo or so.
Anyway, I'm going to buy a nice chocolate bar (Roche or whatever) and put inside the water bottle along with a nice note from my child and a nice note from me thanking the teacher for her work throughout the year. I'm also buying extra chocolates for their Music, Art and Gym teachers and maybe one for the principal because I know that they don't always receieve anything for their hardwork. The kids will make small "thank you" labels to tape on each choc bar for those teachers. Just something small to let them know we appreciate them!!!

I always respond to these with gift cards. As a teacher I truly appreciate all gifts, but gift cards get me the most excited!

I got my daughters K teacher a gift card and we made a special card for her on shutterfly. It's a picture of her and my daughter on the first day of school.

All of the parents in my son's 1st grade class each contributed money towards one gift card to the teacher's favorite clothes store (one that is kind of pricey). Last xmas I a gave her a bookstore gift card. She loved both these gifts. I saw a friend buying $50 gift cards to a favorite restaurant in town for her two kid's teachers. That is a good idea too.

I always give something small just to show a little appreciation. I give a gift to the school secretary as well. She is the one who answers most of my questions and deals with angry parents before directing them to the proper person :o)

If you decide to do a gift a cute idea is to have your child make a card for teacher to add a personal touch and get a gift card. This year I will be getting Panera cards in a $10 amount. I have 2 teachers to buy for.

I have a friend who teaches K and she always tells me about gifts she gets. Handmade cards and gift cards are always her fave. She doesn't mind lotions and body washes because she likes that stuff. Most of the other things like mugs, candles, and other trinkets she and her fellow teachers donate at the end of the year.

Hope this helps!

Gift cards. That's what we do. Seriously, then they can buy whatever they want. I think teachers can only use so many candles, lotions, gift baskets, apples, etc.

My little one just graduated Kinder yesterday. I took a plain pot & painted it with chalkboard paint and let my daughter decorate with chalk. Then planted some sort of houseplant in it (her teacher loves plants). Also bought some gardening gloves and a gift card to the local nursery. I also baked a platter of cupcakes to put in the teacher's lounge for the rest of the staff that interact with my daughter each day.

For my son's classroom teacher, my son and I make a framed picture. Half of it is a drawing, and the other is a picture of him with the date on it. We also give a gift card. I also give a gift card to his spec. ed teachers, gym, etc..They do a lot for him.

One of my best friends is a Kindergarten teacher and she always enjoyed getting gift cards. Since her parents knew how hard she worked, it was a way for them knowing she could enjoy her summer vacation while shopping, dining out, etc. She also liked things she was able to use the following year- organizational trays, class photo books of things she taught. I think it's a really nice gesture.
