Hi All,
My daughter's teacher is leaving for maternity leave next week and will return in January, and I thought about giving her something but wasn't sure what to give, since it's the beginning of the school year we haven't had the chance to get to know her well to know her likes or dislikes. Any ideas? I can't get passed just a card.. lol... would a card be enough?

What can I do next?

I'm a teacher and had a baby this year. A few families gifted me an outfit for the baby, or a towel or book. I very much appreciated that and nothing was too personal that it might not be my taste. I think any common baby item would make a nice gift if you feel moved to give something.

You could get her a bag of diapers and maybe a cute unisex outfit. I would get something a bit larger such as medium sized diapers and an outfit for a 6 - 9 month old. This way as baby grows she will have something to put him/her in when the baby suddenly outgrows all of his/her clothes or diapers.
You could share the cost with one or two friends from your daughter's class.

If you want to get a gift, I would recommend choosing a couple of your favorite children's books. I loved receiving books as a gift (and still do). Tuck a gift receipt inside in case she gets duplicates.

A gift card to Target or Babies R Us (or whatever baby store is near you) will work if you don't think of an actual gift to give.

books are a great idea, but you don't know which ones she already has, do you? (or maybe it's just me who has all her children's books saved up for grandchildren.......)
mothers never have enough tote bags. i'd get her a super-cute tote, and maybe put in a couple of packs of diapers and a blanket.
on the other hand, since this is a short-term relationship, nothing wrong with a card.

Are you the room mom? Is it the teacher's first baby? Find out if the teachers are doing a baby shower for her. If so, the class could collect some cash and give her a gift card to Babies R Us or Target or someplace she might be registered...Also, if she is registered, you could purchase something off the registry. When I had my first baby, I was working for a college and my department purchased my stroller for me from my registry and had a simple shower (just cake and cards). It was the thought that counted to me!

Cheers,

A book! You can never go wrong with books! When my daughter's kindergarten teacher went on maternity leave we bought a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Target just happened to have some Hungry Caterpillar things in their dollar section so we also threw in some baby socks and some cute tin pails that matched the book.

A card would be very much appreciated. If you wish to do more when she returns, perhaps your daughter could sign and gift her a book for the baby.

A gift card to a baby place where she can go get diapers, formula, clothes, etc...like Babies R Us or something. Local though. I would not want a gift card for a place that wasn't close by.
