Hi, Everyone

Asking for any recommendations, I have a 7 year old who is autistic (High Functioning) and he is in regular class and this year he is doing great and I believe it's this year teacher and the help of the special education teacher that visits him once thru the day.
My husband and I wanted to give them both something at the end of the school year.
Any suggestions on what we can give as a token of they great work with our son this year!!

Thank you!!

Gift cards to their favorite teacher supplies store! Or, if you know them well enough, maybe a certificate for a massage or a bottle of wine.

J.,

Most teachers do not expect gifts at the end of the year, how sweet of you for wanting to acknowledge the difference they have made in your son's life.

What would I do?

I would write a letter to the principal and to the school board on the teachers so they will get recognized within the district for doing such a great job with your son.

I would also put together a gift basket of things they might need on their desk - pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, post-it notes, etc. and maybe include a gift card to their favorite restaurant.

Hope this helps!

My simple suggestion that sometimes appears as a very thoughtless gift is to give a visa card and tell the teacher, "Thanks for all the help you give my child during the day...everyday. Now here is a little gift to treat yourself to something on your own time."

I was a teacher before having kids. Teachers get TONS of gifts...tons!! I had 20 students. That meant 20 gifts at almost every holiday...and at the end of the school year. It is so thoughtful and much appreciated...but...it is sooo much stuff. I have apple themed necklaces, earring, pencils, mugs etc.

I loved simple, thoughtful notes telling me how I helped their child. I loved gift cards to specific retail locations. It was nice to be able to pull out a gift card to pay for a movie night with my husband, or a Jamba Juice and not have to use my own meager teacher's salary. It was always wonderful to buy supplies for my classroom with a Visa gift card instead of again...with my meager teacher's salary. Visa cards or specific retail cards really help a teacher in their everyday life...especially on their own time...which they have very little of.

I just have to share....kids with Autism, their parents and teachers hold a special place in my M. heart. My daughter's best friend has Asperger's. My son's close friend has Asperger's. I watch my kids lovingly interact with these amazing boys. They learn so much from each other. I watch the parents lovingly fight for therapy and help for their sons. I watch the teachers and aides come together to help these great kids.

How sweet of you! I know many teachers, and as echoed below, they really appreciate gift cards- Starbucks, local restaurants, book stores, etc.

And perhaps find out if your school board is accepting nominations for great teachers, or another national way to nominate them. If nothing else, a heartfelt note to go along with your gift. Hope they love it!

I'm not sure what to suggest for gifts/tokens of appreciation. But I would suggest that you edit the title of your post. Probably 95% of the posts are "mom seeking advice" (content)... you'll probably have better luck if you give more specific info in your title. Something that is so general/generic may get overlooked by someone who might have the exact answer you are looking for. I don't have the answer, but I almost skipped your question, simply b/c I read the title and thought: "That's describes every post on here".

Maybe "Teacher appreciation for autistic child" or something that gives a little bit of information about what you are seeking help with.
Good luck!

Gift card to Amazon, Target or Barnes & Noble. I usually give $20-25.

Gift card to Target, Walmart, or a cafeteria. Not every teacher drinks coffee, so no Starbucks.

I'm glad your son is thriving.

I agree with the gift cards - Amazon is good! That and a note.

Gift cards - and I usually did Walmart, since they have to buy lots of their own supplies for school.
