I'd like to put in a good word for SCRAP (Scroungers' Center for Reusable Art Parts, "a source for the resourceful"). The SCRAP warehouse is packed with supplies for art and other projects, all donated by corporations (overruns of boxes, discontinued products), businesses (large squares of foam board, canvas totes left over from a convention, sample books of wallpapers, carpet remnants) and individuals (old National Geographics, picture frames, old games and toys). You can get paper, cardboard, fabric, greeting cards, calendars -- and there is always some surprise, like an amazing doll house or a life size statue of a hula girl. Interior designers and the San Francisco opera donate left over fabrics. SCRAP also runs workshops for using their materials -- mosaic, how to make a lamp or a doll or a Christmas wreath. http://www.scrap-sf.org/ 801 Toland St. in the Bayview district.
