Technical Question

So...of course our VCR/DVD player refuses to even turn on when I need it to get through a work meeting in a few hours. I swapped it for the DVD only machine from downstairs, but even after fiddling with the cables, I can't get it to show the DVD in color. It's now no longer showing half the picture on the wrong side of the other half, though. It isn't plugged into our cable because there isn't anywhere to plug in a line for the cable.

DVD player is an older Magnavox and the TV is a new VISIO. My cables are only red, yellow and white. Any suggestions? Earlier I got a ! PS CHI or something like that error on the screen.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks. I'd done the "take off the white one" trick before. I ended up moving the red ends to the PR labeled ports and the color came on. I guess I'd tried all the other combinations except that one.

Is there more than one place to plug in the red, yellow and white plugs? If so-try that.

If all else fails, can you use your laptop? I have plugged my laptop in and put in a DVD in a pinch- long phone conference with a sick kid lying in bed!

Otherwise, "match" the colors up to your cable box "receivers" and plug-in there. There is usually an AV port on the cable box in addition to the t.v.

I had a problem like that once, and I unplugged one of the plugs (I believe it was the white one) and then it worked. I don't think you need all three plugged in for the DVD player to work. My kids had plugged in all three for some game.

you should be able to directly connect the dvd player to the tv, match up the colored wires to the input section on your tv. be sure everything is in snugly

I only have one slot/set of holes out of about 5 that makes my old DVD player work in color - that is also what makes my Wii work. Mine happens to be the top row. So, I have to unplug the Wii from it's top 3 slots and plug the DVD player into the Wii's old spots. Apparently, you can purchase an adapter - I just haven't gotten around to it.

Is it the old TV/VCR switch on the remote?
