hello,

Does anybody can give me any advice or ideas about a summer job for my daughter she is 16 years old turning 17 in September.
I just want her to learn about responsibilities I think a summer job, certainly for juniors and seniors in high school, is a good way to learn discipline and skills different from those you learn going to school. I believe showing up every day, arriving on time, taking responsibility and learning from other people are important skills that can be learned at a summer job. What am looking It doesn't have to be in a professional environment. Just something so she can interact with people in a work environment.
thank you.

Josie

She can try Target. They have a lot of young teens working as cashiers. She can go into any Target and complete the job application at the hiring kiosk. Once she completes the application she will be interviewed so she may want to dress appropriately.

Good luck.

You might also have her ask her councelors at school if they have any recomendations. What about something like being a camp councelor? More fun than retail and she learns to work with kids and adults (the parents and the more senior councelors and staff).
She can always do retail or fast food. Casinos might be a little harder since she is so young.

Hi Josie,
When my daughter was 16, I made her get a job. She hated the thought, but later loved having her own money and got a great deal of confidence out of it. Her first job was at Pappa Johns, working inside. Later she decided she wanted to move up and went to Mac Grill as a hostess and now works for Wynn. There are also some great summer programs at the county. Check www.clark.nv.us, if there is nothing there, give human resources a call and ask how to get enrolled in the summer work programs.
