HI M., It is the new tooth that pushes out the baby tooth. If you are concerned, take her to the dentist. It should follow where the other tooth was. Grandma Mary
Hi my Name is M. and my six year old's second baby tooth just fell out as i'm cleaning out the tooth i notice her permanent tooth has already grown in the back of the baby tooth. I am scared it won't grow in its place. Will it grow in the correct place or stay in the back of her gum?

THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN YOU GUYS REALLY EASED MY GRIEF AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Same thing happened with my daughter's top tooth. So far, it does look a bit crooked (and looks HUGE next to the other teeth surrounding it) but hopefully it will come in straighter as it moves down. I was already told my daughter will need braces, so I guess it will ultimately be fixed!
LOL - I just had the same thing and wasted the run/money for the dentist appt to be told that it is completely normal! Wish someone told me before I ran to the dentist - he said not to worry about it, they shift and move so much now and even if it was coming in crooked there is nothing that can be done until they are at least 9 or 10 - if you child has only lost two teeth by six it may be later because it will take her longer to loose the rest. Don't worry about it!
Hi M.,
Do not worry. My son lost both front bottom teeth November 2008 and had the new teeth behind them. They moved to the front on their own. It took almost a year to be completely in the right place but they did move. It is not an uncommon thing according to our pediatric dentist.

My daughter had a loose tooth at one of her dentist visits, and the dentist wanted her to work on it to get it out as quickly as possible because when the permanent tooth grows in the kids tongue helps push it into place. So you should be fine, but I'm sure her dentist will keep an eye on it too.
Hi, same thing happened to my daughter. Her tooth did move into the proper place, so I'm sure your daughter's tooth will as well.
I've seen this in many children. And I can honestly say the tooth usually moves to the proper place. It does take some time though. Sometimes you have to wait until the tooth next to it falls out also to make room for it to move into place. I would wait a while (a few months) and if you don't feel it is moving to the proper place take her to a dentist to see what he/she thinks.
Same here! My 6 year old had a fully grown tooth behind his front baby one. I was calling him shark teeth for a while. :) Once the baby one fell out the big one moved right into place. Weird, but it was fine. :) My dentist said it's normal, just have patience and it will move. :)
Perfectly normal. The new tooth just pushes the baby
tooth out and then finds its place.
it will move forward on its own now that the baby tooth is gone and there is space.
Most adult or secondary teeth do not errupt in the exact place that they wind up. The lips and tongue help to guide the teeth to there eventual position. If you have any other questions ask your dentist. Children should have their teeth examined around six months after the first baby tooth is errupted, which is around age of one years.
If you have a family history of crooked teeth/braces, I would consult your dentist and maybe a visit to an orthodontist. I had terribly crooked teeth and wore braces. My son has inherited my mouth and has visited the orthodontist since age 7 or 8 at which time he began wearing a retainer as a precursor to braces. Now that he is almost ready for the braces themselves, the teeth are in much better shape and he will not have to wear them as long. Otherwise, I would keep an eye on it, but wouldnt worry. The teeth will move around and eventually in place once there is room. Just use your and Dad's history as a guide, or if there is considerable pain, or you notice that things arent righting themselves after some time. Happy Holidays!
Please consult the dentist right away. If that tooth continues to grow where it is, it can cause a crossbite and your child may need braces later on. If you take your child to the dentist early, measures can be taken to move the tooth forward. The same think happened to me, but I was never taken to the dentist and wound up with a crossbite. By the time I was 16, my jaw muscles weakened and my jaw started cracking and getting sore due to the crossbite. I had to get braces to correct one little tooth!...If I would have gone to the dentist earlier, the tooth could have been moved forward without braces.
Dear M. B;
My Goddaughter had the same thing happen. I am sorry to say that her permanent teeth will continue to grow in its current position.
it Will grown into place!
