My seven month old has now cut two teeth... the front two bottom teeth. Does anyone know the next teeth to come in after that? Do they always come in a certain order?

What can I do next?

Generally, the two bottom center will come in, and then the two top center. However, it will vary from child to child. My son got his two bottom center teeth, and then got his two incisors on top - so for a while it looked like he had fangs!!
You never know which tooth will be next!

I have a 13-month old boy who has two bottom teeth and two top teeth. I was told that this is typical for the bottom two and then the top two to match.

Hope this helps.

Usually bottom teeth first, then top two front teeth. Then it moves to incisors bottom, then the top (those hurt the baby when they come in). then it keeps moving backwards toward the molars. The bigger the teeth (molars) the longer it seems it takes them to come in.

Sometimes babies can get huge purple knots on their gums where a tooth is coming in, that just means the tooth is coming in near a small blood vessel, its no big deal and will go away when the tooth comes through the gum. Some babies get a low grade fever while teething and although some pediatrician insist its not true or related, some babies get diarrhea right before they get new teeth.

Tylenol or Motrin at night can really help ease the teething pain depending on how old your baby is because that seems to be when the teeth move around or hurt the babies the most.

They don't always come in order, but usually the next two will be the top two. They also usually come in twos.

He will probably get his top two next. That is the way my son did. He now has 11 teeth.

Hi T.,

I always thought there was a certain order in which teeth cut, but both of my children proved it is not so. My daughter (almost 5 now) cut her 2 bottom front teeth first at about 8 months. Less than a month later, she cut a top tooth, but next to the front. We joked that she had fangs for about a month until her top front teeth cut through. Our pediatrician said it's not very common, but certainly not unheard of. He said we could take x-rays to be certain that the front teeth exsist, but he said they usually come through soon after and indeed they did. My 15 months old son's teeth came in the same way, but much sooner at around 4 months. Bottom teeth first, then fangs then front top. Apparently the bottom front then the top front are the usual firsts, but nothing with children is ever certain. He now has 4 on bottom and 4 on top. The front teeth caught up very quickly with the side teeth. Hope the teething process isn't too tough on him...or you :)

Hi T.,

It's been awhile for me since my "baby boy" is turning 9 in December, but I remember when he cut his first teeth, it started with 2 on the bottom, then 2 on the top and the canines and molars after that. Hope that helps.

A lil' about me...I am a soon-turning 35 year old mom, wife and middle school educator. I have a wonderful husband who is a professional chef and a beautiful son who is 8 going on 40. Take care!

Generally the next two to come in will be the front top two, but it doesn't always happen that way. My middle son got the top two first and then the bottom two, and my youngest son got four on the bottom before he got any on the top, it was hilarious looking. Looked like a vampire or something. :)

Congratulations! And congratulations to baby boy and his new teeth! Every baby and kid is different, I wondered the same thing with my child because it is exciting that they are growing right in front of our eyes! I love it! But it will most likely be a surprise, and even IF they let you look in their mouths or feel around to see where there is a new one coming up, it is not a predictable stage. They will come don't worry! The average is 2 on the bottom then 2 on top, but mine were just the opposite. Take enjoyment in your son's special way of growing in his own teeth his own way! Good job.

It should be the top front that come in next. I know the baby books that I got for both my lil guys had teeth charts in them, and they were numbered in order. Usually, a bottom set of teeth will come in, then a top set, then back to the bottom. But my second child's teeth didn't follow any order; they just popped up whenever they wanted. Just get your son used to brushing now, because it's a lot easier when they're young, as opposed to waiting til they have a full set. Have fun!

My now 13 month old little boy cut his first 2 teeth at 4 months, so I feel I am equipped to answer your question. =) After the 2 bottom ones, the 2 middle top front teeth should be next. Then they should start coming in around the bottom ones, then around the top ones, etc. They don't always come in symetrically, though. My son has 3 teeth on the bottom in the front, 4 teeth on the top in the front, and he has recently gotten 2 of his 1-year molars on the top. So, even though it looks kind of funny with just 3 on the bottom in front, the other one will eventually come in to even things out. As far as the order, they don't always come in in a particular order, however what I mentioned above seems to be common. Anyway, I hope this makes sense and I hope it helps. Good luck!

My daughters didn't come in the order that they typically come in... she cut her first two at the same time the lower bottoms on easter, then all four top in the course of two nights a week before she turned one, then the 1 year molars came before the eye teeth etc she had gaps on upper and lower between the molars and front teeth. I took her binky away april 3, 2006 and they seemed to fall into place after that.... the dentist said that binky's and thumbs both affect teeth equally. Does he use a pacifier? or suck his thumbs? that can decide how they come in as it did for my daughters.
Also, my dentist said that if you use a rotating bristle brush it is more effective than a regular brush because even if you can get it to skim the tooth it has better chance of removing the plaque and food than the other kind too.... I tricked my daughter into thinking it was just a toy for her teeth and she wants to brush them constantly now after about a week of it.... at about 19 months old

My 9 month old got the bottom two(middle), next was the ones on either side of those and is now getting the top two, front. Everyone I talk to tells me something different about the order they come so I am thinking there is not a certain order but not positive.

I am not an expert but I think there is a typical order that teeth come in. First are the bottom two. Then, the top four. (The 2 center incisors and the ones on each side). Then molars, canines, and then more molars. Good luck with the teething process.
