HELP!! My daughter is 5 months old and her first two teeth just broke gums. She doesnt have it too bad yet, but i'd like to be prepared for when the time comes. Shes already got a lil runny nose, but no fever yet. Today was the first day i gave her ibeuprofin (sp?). She took to it well it just made her a lil sleepy. But it helps. I heard Hylands Teething Tablets work wonders and its natural. ANy other remedies you moms know about that will help my little one? Also, what do I do for her overnight when she starts waking up? Thanks ladies..

Nahes,
I would like to first say good luck with the teething. I have had a hard time with my 2 and teething. My daughter is almost 15 months old and is working on some teeth and was up for almost 3 hours last night screaming. I have tried the teething tablets, but I wouldn't suggest giving them at night. Some of them have a coffea in them which is like coffee and my daughter would not go back to bed. She thought it was playtime. I would read the ingredients. I'm not sure of the brand I purchased, but i think it was Hylands. The only thing that has helped my kids is ibprofen or tylenol. To be honest though, you just have to tough it out. My son that is now 3 got an ear infection almost every time he got a tooth. It was horrible! I wish kids were born with teeth instead of them having to go through this pain. My mom said she read somewhere that if adults had to go through teething like them they would be in excruciating pain. Good luck!

My girls do great with Baby Oregel. I highly recommend it - it numbs the gum area and gives the baby comfort without putting them to sleep. If it's time for their nap or bedtime, then Baby Tylenol gets the job done.
Good Luck!
Hyland's is good, and it's homeopathic. Also, dampen a washcloth, freeze it and let them chew on it. If she wakes during the night because of it, well for me, I would give my kids the Hyland's teething tablets or a pacifier to knaw on.
If need be, I'd pick them up, soothe them, put them back in the crib or co-sleep. But, like anything, once you institute a "new" habit or change a routine.. and they take to it, it will be harder to change. So head's up.
Sometimes when teething, they also don't nurse/drink as well, or may not want to because it is uncomfortable, or may fuss at the breast/nipple etc. But make sure she is getting enough intake still.
If she wakes... don't swoop in right away. Just wait and see. If she is REALLY in distress or upset, then go and soothe her. Many times, even though their sleep or REM may be interrupted, they can go back to sleep, if you give them a chance. It's common for any baby to wake in between or make little noises... but not EACH time will you need to swoop in. "Listen" for their cry and what kind it is. Also, your girl is going to be 6 months... this is a growth spurt time... and at this "phase" they need to feed more, may wake more, get more mobile even in sleep as they roll around/crawl/pull up etc. This is all developmental based and normal....but head's up as this can all interrupt their slumber as well. KEEP to a routine and consistency is key... to nurture good sleep habits and encourage "self soothing" in them. Each month a baby changes and develops physically AND cognitively.
Good luck and take care,
~Susan

Once the teeth have popped thru there shouldn't be to much more trouble. I have used the hylands, and I think they work well. I did see that you gave your girl ibuprofrin, you should use tylenol instead until they are 2. Ibuprofrin is harsher on their tummies. My pediatrician says only tylenol til 2. There is infants ibuprofrin on the shelf, and there was some talk about having it removed (when they were removing diffrent types of cold medecines made with ibuprofrin) but decided to keep the infants because its concentrated so that older children can take it but a much smaller dose than the childrens ibuprofrin. Plus if the infant had allergies to acedamedafine (tylenol) so they decided to keep it on the shelf. I would stick to tylenol if its really bad, but try the hylands first. There is also baby orajel that you rub on before the tooth has popped thru, but the worst is over if you see the white. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones with no reactions to teeth comming in!
