My 4 month old is starting to get 2 lower teeth. He is usually such a calm and happy baby but with the addition of these two teeth he has been very uncomfortable. I have tried cool teething rings, which he hates. I also have tried oragel (baby) and tylenol. He is also not a big fan of cool washcloths. Any other ideas, moms? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the wonderful advice. We have been alternating tylenol and the teething tablets as he needs them and today has been a complete turn around! I am getting more smiles and giggles today then in the past week! Thanks again!

Hylands teething pills...you can get them at Walmart or any drugstore. They come in a small white bottle and look like little white baby asprin. If tylenol doesn't work you might try advil.

Another thing that a dentist told me to do was to freeze a toothbrush that has been dipped in kool aid. They like the taste and the brush helps break the gums faster so the tooth will come through.

My son didn't like the teething rings either but someone told me to squeeze the end of his pacifier and put it under water so it would fill up with water and then freeze it and let him suck on that. It worked great. I would check with your sons ped. before giving him the teething tablets. My ped. gave me a lot of negative information about the tablets but it was her opinion and I've heard a lot of moms love them. Hope it helps.

There are these little net-bag-passy things that you can buy at Babies R Us and Toys R Us and they hold a piece of peeled apple. They are great bc the baby can safely chomp away (which feels nice and cool and soothing on their teeth) and you don't have to worry about pieces going down their throat or choking.

There is a medication called "teething tablets", it comes in a pink box. You can get it at Wal Mart and I think United. It is a tablet that disolves in his mouth. It doesn't "drug" him, but it will relax him and help him sleep better.

When my little one would get very upset about it I gave her night time oragel. It works to help them sleep thru the worst of it and save your sanity. Hope all works out.

My son got his first 2 teeth at 3 months and my next door neighbor heard him screaming one day and she came over to see what was wrong when I told her he was teething she told me to give a cold carrot so I went to the store and bought carrots and they worked like a charm. I also gave him popcycles ( sorry for the spelling ) and they also worked.

I love Hylands Teething Tablets, the are all natural and I have been a life saver in our home with our 3 kids. You can find them at Whole Foods, SunHarvest or Central Market, I have seen them at larger HEB's.

M.,

I used frozen waffles with my son. He would suck on them until they melted and he got through teething with no problem. He also sprouted 4 teeth at a time each time!! It is a little messy but I would rather have the mess than to see him in pain like he was before I did that ..

Good luck!!

M.,
I had the same problem with my youngest son!! A friend of mine recommended herbal teething tablets. I thought she was just over-exagerrating the usefulness of these magic pills until I was able to get some.
They are tiny and dissolve in your infants mouth on contact. You can usually get them at any grocery store or Walmart.
The recommended dosage is 4 to 6 little pills depending upon their discomfort level every 2 to 4 hours. Since they are herbal, there really isn't any dangers in giving them too many too often.
My son is getting his back molars now and we are still using them. He's 2 and a half now. They really do work and it can't hurt to try them.
Good luck and I hope your little one feels better soon!!

Hi M., I am currently going through something similar with my 8 month old, except she just cut all 4 TOP teeth at the SAME time!! :-O One way to ease the pain for your son is to quit using the orajel. It has been proven to "work" in the sense that it toughens the gums, which makes the teething process harder. Other than that, you can try Hylands teething tablets (homeopathic) some of my mommy friends swear by those.. Other than that, there's not a whole lot I can think of..currently I give my daughter zwieback toast, because the roughness helped those nasty teeth break through..but I think your son may be too young for that. Ask your pediatrician what he/she thinks :)
Good Luck!!

Hyland's teething tablets are all natural and great as long as they're given consistently, giving the recommended dosage when they say to. They don't cure it, but do help and I always do Tylenol at night. Good luck, Mom! I think teething is equally as hard on both Mom and baby! I hope he feels better and cuts them soon.

Hey M. when my son was teething, I found teething tablets very helpful. They were great, you just stick them in their mouth and they dissolve. They are all natural so you don't have to worry about him getting too much medicine. They were such a lifesaver for us, hope it works for you as well!

I just found a great teether at Babies-R-Us that has lots of nubby things on it and it's dishwasher safe. Seems like it will do a great job of massaging the gums. There were two styles ... one is an animal shape and the other is "person" shaped. I bought the person shaped one because it seems like the arms and head would reach further back where my little one is cutting molars.

Teething can be a rough period - hang in there!

I put ice cubes in a baggie and supervised my daughter chomping on them when she cut her two bottom teeth. The Orajel gets swallowed and the rags seem dirty. The ice cubes were fun for her and cooled her little gums down.

i know it sounds crazy, but ego waffles, especially the sticks, still frozen work wonders. my son loved them. they numb the gums, help break the skin, and, quoting "Roseanne," the tv show where i got the idea, "They have little built in drool cups." If they are frozen, then the pieces that break off are very small. Don't leave the baby unattended!!! but there shouldn't be any choking risk. Justin really loved the blueberry ones, but any of them worked. my brothers and sisters used the same method, all with amazing results (i am currently pregnant with my dads 16th grandchild and mom's 9th). It really does work wonders, good luck

I tried everything on my little one when she was teething. Nothing worked, not even the homeopathic "cure". One night, I just sat and rubbed her gums with my thumb with a good amount of pressure and she slept. Teething sucks! Thank goodness it doesn't last long. Good luck!
