My dentist told me that kids are better off getting teeth late. A: mouths are bigger and teeth have less crowding B: they have better brushing skills by the time molars arrive
We have a little one that's 17 months old. She didn't start teething unttil she was 12 months old and now she has a total of 6 teeth. Should we be concerned? Have you had a similar situation?
I am so appreciative of all the responses. It really eased our minds to know that we weren't the only ones going through the unknown:-) The information give for easing the teething blues was extremely helpful. I'm glad to be a part of Mamasource because your feedback is AWESOME! We thank you!

We're in the same boat. My dd is 13 mos and has 5 teeth. I spoke with our pediatrician about it and he said there's nothing you can do about it. Teeth come in when they're ready. There is nothing you can do about it. I've also heard the longer the teeth take to come in, the longer they'll last. It's frustrating cause we still have to cut everything up into tiny pieces and she can't eat certain things yet. I wouldn't worry about it though.
My daughter is almost 18 months and up in til last week she only had 3 teeth. She got her first tooth when she was 14 months. Within 3 days she popped 8 teeth through. I wouldn't be concerned. My doctor told me not to worry. Good luck!
My son was the same way. I asked the dentist. He said the later they come in the better, less chance to decay. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
My daughter is 16 months old & still only has those 7 front teeth. Her premolars have been coming for what seems like forever. One is just finally starting to break through. I have to say though, we don't do anything special for her food. Anytime I try to make it easier for her, she tries something else. She even tries to gum apples & loves them.
My son was a very late teether too. At his 2nd birthday, we still had less than 10 teeth. That was Sept and I think he is still getting in his molars. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I just makes dinners a bit more challenging ;)
don't be concerned, they're in there!
We have 5 kids all did different things at different ages, one had teeth at 3 monthes, another not until 1 year. It seemed like once they got one, the teeth just kept coming, our oldest had all his teeth including his 2 yr old molars at 19 monthes. Also a good numbing agent for her gums is clove oil, its very pungent but it does help ease the pain. Also with clove oil it does not harden their gums like orajel, so the tooth can get through quicker with the oil. Another thing I've done for my kids is to wet down and freeze baby washclothes let her chew until her heart is content. Good luck.
No you shouldn't be concerned. My 18 m.o. has 7 teeth that she started getting around 12 months. My oldest had 4 teeth at 4 months so it's normal for them to get teeth at any age with no worries. I wondered the same thing when my 2nd oldest got his later than my 1st but a dentist told me the older they are when they get their teeth the better their teeth are when they get older. I've got 4 children almost 7 years 4 years 18 months and 5 weeks so as a mom of 4 (only 3 with teeth) I wouldn't worry.
Can you take her to a Dentist? All the stories I have read about teeth and care for them said to take children in for there first checkup at age 1.
