Hello. My daughter is 6 months and 2 weeks old. Her development has been amazing...she was only 5 lbs. 8 oz. at birth and now her growth is off the charts. She is also very alert and intelligent. I know I should never compare her to other infants (although...guiltily I do at times!) Most other babies her age have at least (it seems) started cutting teeth by now....but not us. I am not so much concerned but I feel for her. She is bored out of her mind with baby food and stares at me and my husband whenever we sit down and eat. I know she wants to start eating more adult type foods.....Can anyone offer advice on whether this seems late to start teething or am I just getting ahead of myself?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter was born 6/21 and we are waiting on teeth also. She's very interested when my husband and I eat, but she's very happy with the food she gets also. I recently tried giving her the finger biscuits (can't think of what they are called), and she loves them. They basically just dissolve with their slobber :-)

Hi M.,

My friend's son didn't cut his first tooth until 14 months so it's not unusual for them to not be in yet.

Our daughter was born one day before yours(!) and she's not cutting teeth either. I keep thinking I see the signs...the drooling, pulling at her cheeks, everything goes in her mouth..but no teeth. I think I might feel one beneath the gums...but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. We're not concerned though; we continue to feed her pureed foods mixed with cereal and breastmilk and she seems pretty content with that for now. She can handle chunkier things like apple shavings and she seems really interested to eat what we're eating, but we're definitely waiting for some teeth before solids. I've heard there's some "practice" foods that melt in their mouth (unsalted rice cakes, etc.) that reduce choking risks. We're going to look into that eventually. WhatToExpect.com has some great information on next feeding steps. Good luck...especially with #2 on the way! I'll be interested to read more advice here...

HI M.! MY DAUGHTER GOT HER FIRST TOOTH AT 7MOS. SHE'S NOW 12MOS AND HAS 2 BOTTOM TEETH AND 2 TOP TEETH HAVE POKED THROUGH BUT HAVE NOT COME ALL THE WAY DOWN YET. SHE IS MUCH LATER AT GETTING HER TEETH THAN MY SON WAS. DON'T KNOW HOW TRUE IT IS BY I HEARD THAT THE LONGER IT TAKES FOR THEIR TEETH TO COME IN THE STRONGER AND HEALTHIER THEIR TEETH WILL BE. SHE'S BEEN EATING TABLE FOOD SINCE 7MOS. SHE'S NOT A CHOKER OR GAGGER SO IT'S BEEN EASY. SHE EATS HOT DOGS, CHICKEN NUGGETS, SPAGHETTI, ALL VEGGIES, ALL FRUIT, THE LUNCH MEAT SNACK PACKS PLUS MUCH MORE THERE'S NO STOPPING HER SHE LOVES TO EAT. SO BETWEEN 7-9MOS TRY SOME DIFFERENT FOODS WITH HER CUT THEM VERY SMALL AND SEE HOW SHE DOES. THEY DON'T NEED TEETH TO EAT TABLE FOOD. GOOD LUCK K. :)
