Hi M.,
Here is honesty; the doctors always told me that a fever my child might have while teething is not due to the teething, but my kids usually got one... Tylenol helps... those teething toys that you put in the freezer... and when they get older pop cycles are great... and yes, I know I can't spell to save my own life....sorry

They can definately have low grade fevers with teething. My daughter is 5 months and she is teething and running 99-100.4 right now.

Hi! Yes fevers with teething is totally normal. One thing I have learned with my son is to give him a dose of tyneol then wait an hour. If he is still fussy I then call our doctor and ask them if it could be something. I figure it might be worth it to give it a try! Good Luck!

My pediatrician said that teething does not cause a fever. Based on my own personal experience, I would agree! Neither of my 2 children developed a fever when they were getting teeth. Your child may be teething, but if she has a fever, she may have a virus on top of that. Either way, if she seems to be in pain and has a fever (a temp. that you've actually taken with a thermometer)give her some Tylenol and call you're pediatrician for more advice.

my son got mild fevers, we would try orajel and cold wet wash clothes but if those didn't help we would give him tylenol to help bring down the fever and remove the pain.

M. S,

I go through this all the time with my one year old and all my friends babies do to. Sometimes, they may run a low grade fever with teething. Teething also causes frequent sticky bowel movements at times. But, we're talking about temperature less than 100 degrees F. Tythenol every six hours can help with that. But, fevers are tricky, if it's more than 100 degrees and it doesn't go away in 24 hours with the tythenol, it could be the baby fighting an infection, which is usually ear infection or sinus infection, accompanied by a cold. It really depends on how warm she is. Does she have a cold? On the other hand, is she putting her fingers in her mouth, chewing everything, and slobbering a lot more . If so it could be teeting with a little temperature. Call her doctor if it gets worse or doesn't go away in 24 hours. My kid just recently had a low temp with teething, but though she felt warm to the touch, the temp was only 99. No need to call the doc for that, I gave her tythenol and freeze pops, she's fine now. If it's teething, for your baby, get a mesh feeder, put some crushed ice in it and let her nibble on that.

Most folks say teething doesn't cause fevers and loose bowels. Either way, babies get fevers all the time for many reasons. It's how thier bodies fight germs and infections. If it's low with no other symtoms, your doctor will usually tell you to treat it at home and wait it out. Any thing over 100, that last for several days, i'm at the ER....

My daughter cut her first tooth when she was 10 months old and she ran 103.5. That was her only symptom. My son didn't really run a fever, but my daughter did with the first of every tooth (i.e. first top, first bottom, first canine, first molar). Hope that helps. (Doctors will tell you it's not because of teething, and maybe they're right, but lots of mom's kids do run fevers.)

Yes, they do get fevers sometimes. Infant tylenol will help with the fever and the pain, you just have to survive the time until it starts working!

Good luck!

if they do it is very very mild, not over 100. if it is higher that that call the ped. could be something else.

my pediatrician swore to me that teething babies do not get fevers or diarrhea, however, my now 21 month old suffered from both every time he was teething, and even now as his molars are coming in he keeps getting fevers. I really believe that it depends on the baby, I just treated mine with some baby tylenol and extra fluids.

yes they do. but it usually only lasts like a day or so and is usually low grade. If she has that with some other symptoms or it persists then it could be something else.

Hi-
(Mom of two girls) My youngest girl (almost 7 months) is teething right now. She is running a low grade temp., lots of saliva, gassy, fussy, etc. I think each child can have a multitude of symptoms while teething. Double check with your pediatrician, but in my experience, yes some babies run low grade temps. Hope that is reassuring.. Good luck, I know teething can be exhausting for Mom and baby.
