Hey moms. My little guy got his first 2 teeth in late June but nothing since. For the last 2 months drowling and recently the last 2 weeks screaming and runny nose and can't sleep at night. Thought it could be a cold now the last 2 days screaming pulling at ears with all other symtoms. Do you think this a the other two teeth coming or a ear infection? My sister was saying I could get over the counter ear drops to numb the pain caused by teething. Anybody done this and does it help?? Trying to get him feeling better so he can be out of pain and get some good sleep. Please give me any advice. Thanks a bunch.
Ps my sister said the ear drops are called similason.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So the last couple of days have been much more manageable! I used tablets from Hylands it is pure Chamomilla 6x and got it at the health food store. It is a little bit stronger than the normal teething tablets. His temper turned around after one dose it was amazing!! I would highly recommend if you are having problems with a child that won't sleep due to teething or is just pain fussy. Thanks moms for all the help.

Sounds like he has an ear infection. I hope I am wrong but.....I would bring him in. My daughter would never sleep well when she had ear infections. And pulling on the ears is a classic a sign.

it sounds like the bugger has an ear infection. You can't go wrong taking him to the Dr. when serious things like this turn up. It would be better, easier on both of you and cheaper to find it is simply teething that to wait another couple days, and end up making an ER visit. One thing you could do at the moment, is give him a little bit of baby benadryl, help him sleep and maybe unblock his nose a bit. it might make him a bit more comfie for the ride to the doc as well. Good luck, I hope it just teething, but poor baby, that's some serious teething

Ok, I really have no advice, just wanted to say hi. My son was also born in January (10th). He too only has 2 teeth, the 2 on bottom. I am glad to hear he is not the only 9 month old that is toothless! Good luck. I wish you were closer, I could use a friend too!

any time my children have ear pain lasting more than one day i take them to the doctor because ear infections don't just go away and can get dangerous. i'd rather be safe than sorry. i can only remember a couple times that it didn't turn out to be an ear infection, but it was something else that needed antibiotics, so i was glad i'd taken the kids to the doctor. when i was 8 i had a very painful ear infection that made my ears bleed because my parents and i didn't take it seriously enough to go to the doctor early on. so i am much more cautious with my kids. good luck!

If it is teething you can try letting him chew on a frozen washcloth (wet a corner of a washcloth, throw in in a freezer bag and into the freezer for a little while, and he should love that), oragel is wonderful or Hylands brand teething tablets work well also. (They are homeopathic, if you would prefer that option)

I used chamomile tablets when my first was teething or fussy. It's a homeopathic. I know you can purchase hylands teething tablets which work for some babies, but homeopathics work more effectively when you use the specific product rather than a blend. For my daughter, she would cry unless she was being held. The chamomile made a radical change, instantly. I'm still amazed.
If it's a cold or ears, though, I doubt this would work. If you feel he's sick and it's more than teething, maybe call your doc and ask if this sounds "normal" and what they recommend. My doctor's nurse is happy to answer questions over the phone, so I often start with a phone call and avoid the office visit. Good luck!

Hi V.,

I am also a mom looking for friends whom have children about the same age as my son who just turned a year a week ago. Maybe we could meet up for coffee or something sometime. I know when my little guy is teething he will be very irritable and cranky during the daytime, and wake crying at night- not like him at all..I give him Tylenol and orajel- lots of oragel and it seems to help at night and durine the day. Let me know if you would like to meet sometime. Good luck I hope he feels better soon.

While it could be teething, the symptoms also sound a lot like those for ear infection. Not all kids get a fever with each ear infection. I would call the doctor and take him in. Better safe than sorry, right?

My son always seemed to get an ear infection while teething (just finished the antibiotics for this time). Take him in and have them check.
Teething tablets never worked for him, but maybe they will for your son, it can't hurt. This is a long process, but each time, I just think that I am giving my evening (of constantly rocking him and soothing him) to the teething gods :) and that it will come to an end at some point. And there were many periods of no visible activity, but he was still fussy and seemed in pain. Tylenol before bed, worked wonders.

Try orajel on his teeth. If that doesn't seem to end his discomfort (at least temporarily) then I would take him him to get his ears checked out.

Sounds like he might have some water in his ear thats giving him some pain. My son did the same thing and I would constantly take him into the dr's office, they would just tell me it was borderline on having an ear infection. I actually think it was the way I was giving him a bath (laying on his back in the tub on the sponge) It wasn't bad enough for them to say he needed antibiotics, but enough it still gave him some pain. I have heard about the drops, but usually they drain themselves. Could be teeth too, or could just be a combo of both. Sometimes when they laydown it can cause some pain. Can you prop him up a little to ease some comfort? Hope it gets better, and I hope you get some sleep!
