My son is 10 months old, he has not cut a single tooth. My doctor says that every kid is different. He is 10months and nothing. Has anyone had this happen before? Just looking for comforting on it.

What can I do next?

Don't worry, both of my sons were late in teething. I think that their were both around 13 months when they finally got their first teeth. So don't sweat it, they will come in, they're just not in a rush.

Trust me, that is not unusual. My son didnt get any teeth till he was over a year old. I was worried just like you because my oldest son got his first tooth at 6 months old. My son is now 2 years old and has just about all his teeth. So yes, the Dr. told me the same thing, not to worry because all children are different and she was right! So, no need to worry!

Every baby is different. Some kids may be a year or older before the first tooth comes in. If he has no teeth by 18 months then the doctor may suggest seeng a dentist to find out why. I highly doubt he would go that long without a tooth though. My daughter didn't cut a tooth until she was 9 1/2 months old and she got 2 at one time. It is actually better to get the teeth later since they won't be exposed to nighttime feeding sessions when the milk sugars lay on the teeth for a long time. Plus when his adult teeth come in he will probably be better at brushing since he will be older. Research has shown that when teething starts later kids are usually better at dealing with it also. But that is unfortunately not a guarantee.

Hi B.! I too am a SAHM to my 3 kids ( 2 girls - ages 10 & 7 and a boy - 2 1/2). My girls got their first teeth around 6 or 7 months. My son didn't get his first tooth till he was about 11 months. I was really concerned at first. I did some research on this and found that it is in the normal range so I tried to relax. When he did finally get some teeth...he got the first 2 and then 4 more within a month or so. Those pearly little whites will pop up soon enough. Just enjoy the toothless grin while it lasts!

B.,

I have 4 kids, the youngest are 7 year old twins. While three of my children cut their first tooth between 4 and 6 months, my youngest (the boy twin) didn't cut his first tooth until his first birthday. Trust your doctor, every child is different, and developmental milestones will be reached when your son is ready. And remember, the sooner they get their teeth, the sooner they lose them... My girl twin cut her first tooth at 4 months, and lost her first teeth at 6 years 7 months. My boy twin still hasn't lost one, and they turned 7 years old a month ago. Normal is different for everyone :)

Hi B.,
My daughter was 10 1/2 months before she cut her first tooth. I was nervous about it as well. Now she is 16 months, and is getting molars, so she started late, but caught up very quickly. I wouldn't worry about it.

No fear B.....

My son didn't start cutting his first tooth until he was 14 months old. He ate everything in sight like he had teeth, so that wasn't a problem! Now at 29 months he's right where he should be.

My daughter didn't start cutting her first tooth until 11 months. She now has her front 4 teeth along with a molar that just popped up last week! She's now 15 months.

Each child will also get their teeth in a different order... So keep a look out for both top and bottom, back and front!!

Hi, my daughter did not cut her first tooth until 2 days before her 1st birthday. After that one, it didn't take long until more teeth came in. She is 2 1/2 now and just now getting her last regular tooth, as well as her 2 year molars. Her doctor said this is fine, all kids develop differently. We still fed her solids and she did very well with gumming the food. A dentist actually told us that the later babies get their teeth, the stronger their teeth are supposed to be.... who knows. :-) Once your son gets one tooth, the rest will probably follow quickly!

Don't fret! My little guy didn't get his first tooth until after his first birthday and was slow getting the rest in. They did all finally pop out before he turned 2. (It seemed like all in the same day) He never had any issues learning to eat solids, those gums can mush through most foods quite well.

A friend's daughter didn't have any teeth or really any hair until 13 months, and she was perfectly healthy. Normal is just an average, after all.

Hey B.,

Dont worry, my son went to his 1st birthday w/ just a little bud popping up. He is 2 1/2 and he is only missing his 2 yr molars. Oh, and on the plus side...I think if they teeth late, they are able to handle the pain and or express the pain and you arent worried about what is wrong. My son had NO discomfort that made him upset or cry like some babies do. Good luck and dont sweat it!!

My son will be 10mo. on the 10th and he has yet to cut a tooth. He is my toothless wonder boy!! There will be times when we think he is about to cut a tooth for various reasons like excessive drool, but they are always false alarms. Anyway, despite his lack of teeth, he is progressing quite well, especially when it comes to feeding. We are amazed by how well he chews with his toothless gums. At his 9mo checkup, the doctor showed no reason for concern. So just enjoy your little toothless wonder boy because pretty soon I am sure he will be wailing in the middle of the night when the 1st tooth cuts.

My daugher went thru the same thing, Grant it my daugher is only 13 months but she is finally getting more teeth, I think she was around 10/10 1/2 months when she finally started getting a tooth. They say-The old myth is then longer it takes for a child's tooth to come in, the stronger and healthier they will be. They will come in, They might even start coming in twos. My daughter finally got her two bottom teeth first, and now she just got three (well 2 and 1/2 teeth, the other one is only half way cut through.) just recently, in the last month maybe if that. Hope this helps

I know exactly how you are feeling. My son didn't cut his first tooth until after his 1st birthday. No need to worry. I talked to his pediatrician and I was told the same thing as you were. He's now 20 months and still only has 9 teeth. He gets by all right without the rest of them. So, I wouldn't be worried at this point.

Neither one of my kids cut a single tooth until they were 10 months...probably closer to 11 months. My son is now 16 months and has 12 teeth. My daughter is almost four and she has all her teeth. Dont worry about it..My son cut 6 teeth in one week. It was nice to get it over with instead of one at a time. Good luck

Hi there!
My daughter will be 1 year old in 2 weeks and she still doesn't have a tooth. I can slightly feel 2 coming through but they have been like that for about month and still haven't completely cut. Don't worry--it is normal. By chance is your son walking? There is an old wives' tale that kids either get teeth early or walk early. That is definitely true for us--my daughter was walking at 9 months old!!
Enjoy that gummy baby smile while you can....all too soon he'll be a "big boy"! Good luck!!

A little boy I used to be a nanny for didn't get his first tooth until he was 14 months. Now at 19 months he still only has 2 teeth. His doctor is not concerned about it because he is showing definite signs of teething.

My daughter will be ten months old next week, and she just cut her first tooth a few days ago. At her nine-month well check, her doctor also said that this was still in the range of "normal" and to give it a few months. I was worried about this, too, since my older daughter was barely five months old when she cut her first tooth and had six teeth by ten months. Hopefully, your little one will have a toothy smile soon!
