When my daughter got her first 8 teeth, all she did was drool a lot - they popped right through. 5 of those she got in a week and a half while on vacation, in every pic she is drooling or chewing on something, but otherwise smiling and happy. Then when she got her first molars, she had a fever and horrible diaper rash. It was definitely the teething.

My kids got a fevers with each tooth. That is how I knew to check for teeth poking thru. (they drooled all the time so it was hard to tell from that) I've read that teething does not cause fevers and that it is an old wives tale, however, you could not convince me of that because my kids did it. Their doctor said he sees it all the time.

The temps were usually 101 - 102.

Two things:
1-In a child over 6 months of age, their temperature has to be over 101 for it to be considered a fever. They just don't regulate their temp as well as adults do.
2-If your child has a cold, then that is a virus and an antibiotic won't do anything to help it.

My kids always ran a low grade fever while teething. If it turns into a real fever (over 101) I would call the ped. since it may be something else.

My ped. always told me that runny nose and fever wouldn't happen if it was just teething, but it happened every time my daughter had a tooth coming in. There was also excessive drooling.

Most Dr's will tell you they have nothing to do with one another, but from my experience they do.

Good Luck

I heard that teething lowers their immune systems, so it's technically not the teething that causes fever and runny nose, etc, but the fact that since their immune system is lower they catch things easier.

My kids always had flu-like symptoms while teething including VERY high temps (103+) and vomiting, even major ear infections.
