Dear I.,
Both of my children lost their appetites during teething.
One got a runny nose and a horrible cough that sounded like he was on the verge of dying. It was so scary! But it was teething. If my daughter got a diaper rash, I knew she was getting ready to cut a tooth. It happened every single time. So, their are lots of different things that can happen during teething. And loss of appetite is one of them. Your little guy also had to have surgery for his mouth and will need another one. So, any type of mouth pain may make him disinterested in eating. Just getting a tooth can make kids miserable as it is. Try letting him chomp on frozen juice bars. The good ones with real fruit. That way you'll know he's at least getting something. Try frozen yogurt. Get one of those little spoons that has the rubber coating so it can't hurt his teeth or gums if he wants to bite it. It may sound crazy, but at that age, my kids also loved mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs. Just try different things. He won't starve himself. He just doesn't feel like eating right now. Just so you know, as kids get older, they go through phazes where they barely eat. It always made me nervous. But, next thing you know, they are eating everything in the house. And for my kids, my nephew, my friends kids, it always signalled getting ready for a growth spurt. So try not to worry. He'll be okay. And I will really think about you and the surgery you have coming up for him. I am so lucky that I didn't have to go through anything too traumatic with my kids.
I don't mean to be personal, but would you mind sharing with me how you are working from home as a marketing consultant? I have been in sales and marketing for years but am currently unable to work due to a disability. I broke my leg and haven't been able to drive since September. I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask, if you don't mind me doing so.
Take care!
