My 9 month old daughter is constipated and extremely fussy. I have tried prunes and juices and Karo syrup and warm water. And I have also tried water. It's Sunday and live in a small town so can'tget her to the Dr until Thursday because the Dr is full. My question is has anyone tried using fletchers gentle laxative for kids on a 9 month old baby and if so did it help your baby and how much did u give your baby. T.i.a

What can I do next?

If it's acute (she's really crying and can't get anything to move) you could do an infant glycerin suppository (PediaLax has them). It will work within minutes. Then, once she passes the hard piece that has her blocked up, keep up the prune juice, etc, to keep things moving.

Also in the longer term, watch what you are feeding her. If she's started solids, stay away from rice cereal. You can see if oatmeal cereal is easier for her system.

I know you can't get her to see the doctor, but this really isn't something my doctor would see a patient for without the patient first trying home remedies. What did he/she tell you to do? I would NOT mess around with laxatives for an infant - the nurse at the office should be giving you those suggestions - not a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Welcome to mamapedia, C.!!

Sounds like you are trying too many things at once.

I've never tried Fletchers Laxative for my kids. I wouldn't give ANYTHING like that to my child without seeing or talking with the doctor first. Doesn't matter what other people have done or used, they don't know MY child and any health concerns, allergies, weight, etc. my child might have.

Is your child breast fed and on solids or formula and solids?

If she is NOT passing anything at all and starts to run a fever? I would take her to the urgent care and have her checked out.

I would ensure that the prune juice I'm giving her is diluted as well.

When my kids were having trouble pooping? I would put them in a warm bath and let them relax...

Good luck!

If you are sure it is only constipation and not a bowel blockage, Miralax is a well known safe pediatric laxative. Prescribing information is that it may be given for children over 6 months of age, by using 0.5 to 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight.
1 kilo is 2.2 pounds, so if your child would be 18 pounds, that would be 8.18 kilograms. Then the dose could be anywhere from 4 to 8 grams of Miralax. One capful of Miralax powder is 17 grams. So for practical purposes, you could give close to 1/2 capful or less.
Miralax has minimal taste, mix in water, or you could flavor with lemonade or something similar.

You can look up Miralax and dosing on drugs.com

If your baby is trying to pass stool and it is too hard, you might try a glycerin suppository well lubricated with water soluble gel, like K-Y jelly.
Best wishes.

Here's my 2 cents. Did you tell the doc she is constipated and he needs to see her now??? That's crazy. She could rupture by then.

If you are feeding her solids then stop. Her tummy might not be ready for them and they didn't digest right so they balled up and made a plug.

She is old enough to be eating some but her primary nutrition should come from her formula or your breast.

Baby food has no nutrition, it's flavored goo. It's purpose is to teach an infant to chew and swallow, not feed them or give them any nutrition. That's straight from either Gerber or Del Monte themselves.

The other stuff you're doing might not be good for her. Our pediatrician said he had a baby patient die from using Karo syrup for constipation when he was just starting out so he never recommended that.
