So, my husband and I are trying to get pregnant with our second child. I thought it would be a great idea for me to come up with some sort of 'trying to conceive club'. I would love to connect with other mama's out there who are trying to conceive, and would love to continue to talk to them after we/they get pregnant... Mainly just to have someone to talk to who is going through the same thing that I am. We can talk, laugh, and vent about our situation... Then later we can do the same about our pregnancies! Is there anyone else out there who is trying to conceive? Would you be interested in something like this?

I'm not sure if it would be better to keep the "club house" here on mamapedia, or if I should start a group on facebook. What do you think?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, apparently I need to add that this is NOT a question about whether this is a good time for me to conceive. Since Oliver has febrile seizures (Meaning when his temp gets too high he has a fever), he might be having seizures for 3 or 4 more years! Sorry... We are not waiting 3 or 4 more years for another baby. Does that make me a bad mother? Nope.

Jo - About every 1 out of 25 children will have at least one febrile seizure, and 1/3 of those will continue to have febrile seizures until they grow out of them around the age of 5. We have armed ourselves with education about febrile seizures and even though we are still learning knew things every time Oliver has one... We are working with our doctor to come up with a "plan". And as far as I know, febrile seizures are kind of "Wait until they grow out of it" sort of thing.

Thank you ladies for the support!

I think you missed Cheryl's point in a big way! It isn't wait until he is over the seizures it is wait until you have a plan in place to deal with them and an actual understanding of why he is getting them.

I have four kids and none of them had seizures, this is not normal, not a meh, it will pass kind of thing.

It's a really neat idea, but I agree with Cheryl on this one in terms of waiting.

Taking care of a child that isn't sick is your normal level of challenge. You need to dedicate your time and energy to your little guy with seizures, and to YOU staying healthy during this challenging time. Line up your ducks now for having another child, but to put the additional stress of pregnancy on top of yourself while your son is sick may push your endurance over the edge.

what a nice idea! how sweet of you to want to join together with other girls/ladies who are TTC.

I don't think Mamapedia would be the place to have this group. Myspace or Facebook would be the place to have a group. There are no chat rooms on this website.

Going on your other posts and some of those who have already responded, it appears you have missed the point behind people telling you to wait. They are not telling you to never have another child. They are telling you to wait until you have a diagnosis of what is wrong with your son. None of my children have had seizures. EVER. I do not know any person whose child has had a seizure, so I do not see them as "common".

If it were my life? I would not get pregnant until I knew what caused my child's seizures.

i thought people were being harsh but when I looked the siezure issues J. started and you dont have all of the answers yet and are having trouble paying for meds and opted out of possible life saving meds for cost?

I agree with others that you should concentrate on Oliver atleast for the next 6 months before adding someone else to the family. you dont know if the siezures are going to last longer and cost a lot more money yet.

I would just like to add on kindly to some of the other mom's concerns about TTC right now. My best fiend's daughter is your age and her son is 27 months old. The little boy nearly drowned one year ago and is still nearly comatose (certainly your son is much better off!!) but this young mom has been pregnant twice since then: lost the first one due to miscarriage at nine weeks and went into very early preterm labor with the second.

I know you don't want to wait forever and I would love for you to minimize the stress on your body and be as prepared (physically and financially) as you can be, that's all.

Good luck!

I feel like V. needs a little defending. Everything she has said about febrile seizures ,are true. I think some are being a little hard on her. Even if her sons seizures turn out to not be febrile, she will probably never know the main cause ( or if it will reoccur in subsequent children) and if so, should that stop her from having more children? That's her decision, if she can manage .

Having said all that, febrile seizures can be a precursor to an underlying, more serious seizure disorder. If a child has them longer than 5 minutes or they continue after the age of 5, they are classified as a different type of seizure & medication is required. So, I also understand why some are showing concern for your situation and suggesting you wait until your sons seizures stabilize.

Ultimately, you need to do what's right for you and your family and follow your heart.

Facebook sounds like a great idea. Don't listen to below febreile seizures are very common. There is no need to wait to have more children until you 'find' out what it is. Children outgrow them. The problem is a fever spikes quickly and it is just the way the body is coping. My first daughter had it. Never had any since age of three. My second daughter never had them. I'm done have children but I like the Facebook or maybe a blog? Good luck
