This Has Never Happened Before

I am only 6 weeks along and am cramping and bleeding. The bleeding is really heavy like a period. I have went to the doctor about 6 times in the last week even up to the ER twice and they keep telling me everything looks great. I'm having a lot of symptoms already with this pregnancy where my other 3 children I really didn't have too many in the beginning. I was just wondering has this ever happened to anybody else and if so what were you advised to do or what worked for you to stop or settle down the bleeding?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the excellent input. It feels nice that other mothers know someone or have been through something similiar. I went to the doctor today and they did an ultrasound and did another hcg level test but won't be in until tomorrow. As far as my ultrasound they nurse seemed to go so fast and I couldn't tell and she wouldn't turn the screen towards me, but the results went to my obgyn and advised that there was no sac. My doc told me it looks like I have had another miscarriage. I'm not feeling so good today but I feel like there's something more. They are suppose to call me with my results on my levels. I wish I could have another ultrasound just to make sure she didn't miss anything. I just feel like I'm being to paranoid. Maybe I should just let go - I don't know for some reason I feel so angry.

This has happened to me on 2 occasions. The first I found I was carrying twins. The 2nd time we found there was a small tear in the uterine wall. Both times the outcome was great. I now have 5 year old twin boys and a i year old baby boy. Have they done a recent ultrasound?

If you are uncomfortable with your doctor's advice, then you should feel free to get a second opinion. However, my sister had the very same thing happen to her when she was farther along and found out she was actually pregnant with twins, but one didnt develop properly and she miscarried that one. My niece is now over a year old. I too had a period like bleeding with my third baby and if you read my profile, she is now a healthy happy 6 month old. I thought I had lost her and didnt really bother too much with going in. lol My best friend has had 5 miscarriages and is currently pregnant and has had some bleeding with it too, but everything is going great for her. And lastly my mom had 3 periods while she was pregnant with me, yet here I sit, healthy as a 33 yr old can be. So my advice is to do what is most comfortable to you, but remember, bleeding doesnt always mean miscarriage or at least losing the baby, though maybe you are miscarring a twin instead. Good Luck!

Hi Cortney....

GO TO A DIFFERENT DOCTOR....NOW!!!!! This is NOT normal!! Is your doctor a OB/GYN?? If not, FIND ONE!!! For the doctor to tell you "everything looks great" is just plain WRONG!! It is NOT great! My girlfriend did the exact same thing and her doctor said the exact same thing...she almost lost the baby!! She called my crying and told me everything and I took her to my OB/GYN IMMEDIATELY!! Had she followed her doctor's advise, she would not be holding her little Kyler now.....FIND AN OB/GYN and GO NOW!!!

Just Me!
S.
P.S. I'll be praying for you and your baby!!

Have they drawn your blood to check your Progesterone level? I would have this done ASAP. Often times people miscarry due to low levels of Progesterone. This can be taken care of with a vaginal suppository for the first trimester. Good Luck!

When I was 17 I became pregnant with my first child. Sometime around 6 weeks I began bleeding heavily, but not all the time. At times I would be just fine, but at times I would bleed heavy enough to soak a pad while I drove to the store to buy more. I went to the doctor repeatedly and was told everything looked just fine. Finally when I reached 5 months along they tried to listen for a heart beat. That's when they became concerned. An U/S revealed that I had what is known as a molar pregnancy. My baby had died very early on, but my body didn't recognize it and was continuing as if it were still pregnant. I had to have a D&C and then undergo blood tests for some time after. Insist on an U/S to make sure things are really okay. Had I known to stand up for myself....

Anyway, on the bright side I did eventually have a perfect, beautiful little boy. It just took a little trial and error.

a friend of mine had normal periods for the 1st 5 mos of her pregnancy. If you doctor and the ER both tell you everything is going well, then you probably are. I have found that ER are a little more diligent at attention to detail so if they thought something was wrong you would have probably been admitted.

But if you need more peace of mind, there's nothing wrong in seeking out another opinion.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I've miscarried three times, and it sounds a lot like your right to be concerned. Does you doc know about your previous miscarriages? I bled through my pregnancy with Caleb, but the doc was really concerned. Apparently it's something that runs in my family and clotting around the placenta with miscarriages. (have you talked with your mom?) She gave him a "pessimistic 50/50". Also, with Caleb, I bled a lot because I lost his twin. I think you should consider a new doc. They need to take you more seriously. YOu should be getting early ultrasounds. You deserve better treatment and some answers.

The only thing I've learned from my prego probs is that if you're going to miscarry, that's how it's going to be and if the baby is coming he's coming no matter what. I know that sucks, but it's all I got.

Hi C.:

I am so sorry you're having all these troubles with your pregnancy. I don't trust that everything could be okay if you're bleeding like that. Something just doesn't sound right to me. I have three children and never once had those problems. I don't know though, I've heard of people having light bleeding problems while pregnant but wow, I think I'd go to a different doctor for a second opinion. Sounds like something isn't right.
God bless you and hope you get to feeling better!!!

My daughter is currently almost 5 months old. I had normal periods during the first 3 months of my pregnancy. I had 2 ultra sounds to see if anything was wrong and they found nothing. I deliveried a healthly baby girl at the end of September. So just hang in there, it should stop shortly. A friend of mine also had normal period for her first 3 months of prenancy. So i don't think that you have anyting to worry about. Best of luck to you..

Have the doctors even admitted you and monitored the baby? I too have had terrible miscarriages in my past, and so that would be my first thought. I know that if you are contracting they can hook you up to an IV and give you meds that can stop that. They may also prescribe total bed rest... which is near impossible with other kids... I would seriously take it easy and if the bleeding and cramping don't go away... I would go back to the doctor and demand an ultrasound and a stress test (I don't know if you have to be further along for that or not, but I would ask). Good luck. I will definitly pray for you. God bless.

It didn't happen to me but to my sister and she thought that she was miscarring and she didn't. I know it is scary and I have had a miscarriage too, the same thing happend to me too I had cramping and bleeding too but the doctor checked me and said you are fine then I thought am I miscarriaging a twin and I asked her that and she ordered a untrasound and there was nothing, also they are hormones in your blood have them take blood or take a pregnacy test. After I had my ultrasound I then continued to bleed andI finally did miscarry then it took my 4 years to get pregnant again. DEMAND AN ULTRASOUND.

I would definitely call the doc. It sounds like a miscarriage if you are bleeding heavily. But, I had a friend who had a tubal pregnancy and bled quite heavily. Her progesterone levels were on due to the pregnancy, but she knew something was wrong. Her doctor kept telling her everything looked fine, but she insisted something was wrong. Finally, 3 months and near death later, it was figured out it was in her phallopian tubes.

This has never happened to me, but I would seek a second opinion. To me it sounds like a miscarriage of some ort. As others have said maybe it is the miscarrying of a twin and one pregnancy is okay, but I personally would get a second opinion somewhere, from another OB/GYN doc. Good Luck with your pregnancy!

Hi. Just thought I'd give you a little input, since I am an ultrasound technologist and do A LOT of OB ultrasounds for ER patients with bleeding. At six weeks bleeding could be from a lot of things. You could have a subchorionic hemorrhage (bleeding around the sac) depending on where this is located and the size of it, it may or may not be a problem. If it is small or in front of the sac, it will probably be ok. If it is large, or behind the sac, it could be an issue. Also, an ectopic pregnancy can cause bleeding. Typically, you will have severe pain with this, but not always. And, as some have mentioned, it is possible to still have 'periods' while pregnant. Also, I work with a lady who was pregnant with twins and had a lot of bleeding early in her pregnancy, she lost one, and the other is great, but it caused a lot of concern for her. Either way, you should be having ultrasounds, to see if you have an ectopic, which is a very serious emergency, and to see if you have a bleed around the sac.
