Hormones? I had my first hot flashes postpartum. They were awful and always at night while sleeping. I don't know why at night. I dont' have them anymore, but I notice that I can be freezing at night (2 layers, 3 blankets, and socks) but wake at 2am sweating. Must be something about the body at rest. I imagine this is what happens at menopause too, heaven help us all.

I am no doctor, but I would guess it is your body getting rid of toxins. Plus, your body temp may go up when you are sleeping but you are unaware it is happening.

I would think it would be a good thing - means your immune system is fighting! I recall as a child waking up after a night sweat when I was ill and feeling much better.

Hope you feel better soon!

Not sure of your age, but since in my 20's I have had periods of time when I have night sweats...hot flashes! YUP! Peri-menopause! That's what I was told...fantastic..so I get 20 or so years of THIS before my dang period stops!!! YIPPEE! But, like others said, could just be your body's way of ridding you of yucky stuf too! I wouldn't worry too much unless you start to run a fever that won't go away or show other symptoms!

Well... you don't sweat (typically) when you have a fever. Sweating is your body cooling you off. It shuts that response down when it wants to give you a fever. In fact, when a fever breaks, the most common thing is to suddenly be drenched in sweat / that's how you can know one has finally broken without needing a thermometer.

Night sweats usually mean fever. Unless, of course, you're just sleeping hot...

While I was on the bcp I had years where every month I'd wake up in a pool of sweat. Literally. I could wring my shirt out!! I came off the bcp over a year ago and have not once woken up sweating. Are you on a bcp? That could be why. Just my 2 cents. :)

It could be your temp is going up when you are sleeping (since you are sick). This happens to my daughter when she gets a cold. If it is occurring all the time then maybe get your thyroid checked.

Because when you sleep your metabilism kicks in and you are sweating out your virus or whatever you have.

This is too easy to figure out. If you're sick, you have a bug of some sort. That means your body isn't quite up to par. Coughing and 'junk' are signs that things are not as they should be. Your body is trying to eliminate the 'bad guy' to get better and sometimes it has to work really hard to do that. Thus sweating.
Also, if you have a mattress pad that is partially plastic, that will do it too. When I'm not even sick I sweat like a pig because of a protective cover.
In your case, your body's working to get rid of whatever is making you sick. Drink a lot of fluids and water to help it, and then find a good immune booster.
