Throat Infection? - Wind Gap,PA

With in the past month I have had strep twice, bronchitis and double ear infection. It has been about 2 weeks since I finished all of the medicine. I woke up yesterday with a raw throat!! Today I feel like there is a cactus in the back of my throat. My tonsils are swollen. I do still have them. How many times does an adult have to have a throat infection before they are referred to get their tonsils out? I work at a school and am going to have the nurse check my throat but jeeze, this is annoying now. Thanks for your input.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I went tot he dr and I do not have strep and I do not have mono and I do not have allergies because I have a fever. I paid $30 for the dr to tell me he does not know what is wrong with me. They did do another swab of my throat and is sending it out to the lab. Hopefully some thing will come back. He gave me a prescription but he has no idea for what so I didn't get it filled because I am not comfortable taking medicine when I have no idea what for. I am at work, my throat is so swollen and I hate feeling this way. I am at my wits end!

I would have to agree with Cheryl O. You probably should get tested for allergies. I would also try the neti-rinse. I use it twice a day for my allergies. It certainly helps with sore throat/post nasal drip. I also can tell you that this winter has been the worst as far as contracting respiratory infections, as well as bacterial. It might be that you need a stronger antibiotic to counterattack the strep. I wouldn't jump on getting your tonsils removed. If you were getting strep every 6 months or other throat/respiratory infections for then three times a year for years, then perhaps you might look into it. Working at schools, you tend to catch a lot more of the viral / bacterial infections. I would look into other ways to build up immunities.

Can you just go to an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) doctor, relay your history and have him take a look?
Sometimes tonsils become so infected that instead of fighting an infection they become a source of recurring infections.
Adults do sometimes have tonsils/adenoids removed but the recovery is longer than it takes kids.

I use Congaplex for strep and it totally gets rid of it. 4 each day for 10 days and it works like a miracle.

I've never had an antibiotic in my life, even though I was culturing strep in a microbiology lab and the entire class got strep. I was the only one who did not get antibiotics and was symptomatic in 2 days....but continued to take it to make sure it was gone.

Tonsils are a blessing. They are the signal that something is wrong. They are part of the lymph system, which shunts toxins out. Taking tonsils out is like yanking the wires to the engine light on your car dash. The problem is still there, but you can't see the warning.

Sounds like allergies that are root of the problem. Have you been tested for allergies? If not - do.

If you have had strep twice in the past month - then your body hasn't gotten rid of the original infection. Go to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor and have them test you for allergies and get a stronger antibiotic for the strep.

I had my tonsils out when I was 30. It was a pain in the rear - it took me about 4 years to be able to eat jell-o or soup/broth again. And the first 48 hours I could've sworn I had chewed and swallowed glass. I've not had strep since I had my tonsils removed.

Try using the NeilMed nasal/saline rinse - I don't like the netti pot - I use the plunger bottle. That will help with the congestion and post nasal drip which is causing the sore throat.

Get checked out.
