I use advantage for fleas and ticks. My dog has only had one tick in his life, and it was dead on the spot! It's totally worth the money :)

We use Sentinel, which combines the flea and tick medicine with the heartworm medicine in one pill. We have never had a problem with this dog in 9 years, or two previous dogs who lived 12-13 years each.

Frontline doesn't work nearly as well as Advantage. Upon my vet's recommendation we switched. No more problems! Good luck!

We always used Seven Dust (like for your garden) & just powdered the dogs w/it. Works real good & it's not harmful for the dogs. Good luck!

7 dust your yard and keep up with it. You will start to see a difference soon. Also if your dog has access to a wooded area, try to cut access to the woods off from your dog.

We had the same problem when we lived in town. There is a tick collar - Preventic. you have to get it from your vet or you can get it from the vet at the Petsmart store. It is the only thing that worked. We treated our yard and eventually the ticks just bit the dogs and died off. Frontline has never worked for us so we've used Advantage and the Preventic collar. We live in the country now and still don't have tick problems. (you can also order them at 1800petmeds but they will ask for your vet and will contact them to get it ok'd). I also agree that the ag stores are cheaper. They sell a poison for yard & home - Demon. Works pretty good too. Good Luck!

We have the same problem. Our two dogs constantly have fleas and ticks. We treat them with Frontline, give them flea baths, and treated our yard with nematodes, which are meant to eat the flea larvae. We are at our wit's end with the flea & tick problem. The poor things are constantly scratching and we would love to ease their discomfort. Our neighbors have a lot of cats and I thought that perhaps they keep picking up fleas from the undergrowth outside as that is where the cats hang out when our dogs are not outside. I would love to hear what other people advise you. Sorry I have no solution. My vet's office did suggest giving them the Frontline every three weeks instead of monthly.

Not sure how big your yard is or if you live in the country. But when fleas get out of hand here we actually spray our yard. We tell our neighbors too and usually they are having a problem and we plan on getting the yards sprayed around the same time. They have more environmentaly friendly sprays now too.
Good luck.

Humm. I'm having the same problem. We never have ticks (we live in Houston), but we went to the country seven or so weeks ago and my two dogs have had ticks ever since. First I immediately used Advantix which worked on one but not the other and the next month (September 1) I switched to Frontline which I paid a lot of money for two doses and thought sure would take care of the problem. I just found one last night alive and kicking. It's very disturbing. I guess my next move will be to use a dip of some kind. I really hate this. Sorry I can't help. Just wanted to share your pain, haha.

Good luck.

HAVE BEEN THERE & DONE THAT TOO. I KNOW, NOT FUNNY. BUT I USED UNREFINED SULPHUR BLOCKS TO PUT ALL OVER MY YARD & HAD A LARGE 1 BACK THEN. & BEFORE I PUT THAT OUT I HAD MY YARD SPRAYED FOR TICKS BY AN EXTERMINATOR. BUT THIS ALL DID TAKE CARE OF TICK PROBLEM. MINE WERE EVEN BEDDING UP IN CRACKS ON MY BRICK OUTSIDE OF HOUSE.
GOOD LUCK,

I use a product called Sol u mel. I spray the dogs before they go outside and I would bath them with two capfuls of it in their rinse water. when the did get one I would put T36-c tea tree oil on it and it would back off all by itself. I buy these items from a members-only Health and Wellness company. Let me know if you would like their info.

Hey K.,
I have had to treat my yard and keep the dog bathed at least once a week. You may need to treat your house When a tick lets go(yes they do!) they will release at least 100 baby ticks or more.We took our carpet out!! Good Luck! Watkins Exterminators on Uvalde know their business! Call and ask about their products to do it yourself.

We have also had tick problems. My son actually had a small one on his head! We had to call in an exterminar. Your dog could have left some around the house, and they will continue to get back on her, or you! Wash your sheets and vacuum.I would call an exterminator.

Hi K.-

We are having the same problem with our dogs--even with our horses! Even if your dog is an inside dog, when he goes outside to potty he can pick up ticks off of the grass and weeds. We, too, used Frontline for years and beginning last year it seemed to have lost it's efficacy. This summer we switched to Promeris and it has worked great, but it does have a higher incidence of side effects than some of the other products available. The ticks were so bad here, we just felt it was worth it. There are several other topical products available to combat ticks. I hear good things about Advantix and Comfortis, too. I hope that helps! We used Frontline for years, and it quit working for us. The vet recommended we switch to a newer product callled "Vectra 3D" It kills the ticks within 6 hours, versus 24 hours with frontline. We also had to get a professional exterminator out to treat both the house and yard. Our dog only went out to do her business, but they were obviously coming in from outside. We had to pay about $150 extra for tick & flea service. They told me the chemicals would not be harmful after about 4 hours, so we left the house and aired it out. We used Bulwark. That was a month ago and the problem was reduced from finding dozens of ticks/day to only a couple per week. My dog is much happier and healthier. Good luck.

My dogs also developed a TERRIBLE tick problem while on the Frontline product our vet had sold us, so out of desperation, I switched back to the Advantage, and then the ticks went away. I have used Advantage for at least 15-20 years on my dogs and have never had a tick problem since. My dogs stay outside when we are not home, but when they came inside, the ticks were also getting on my child. I even got mad at the vet for selling me the Frontline. I recommend using Advantage.

My dog had this problem last month. I use Hartz drops monthly hoping to avoid the problem. Once he got them, I bought the Hartz Spray for ticks at HEB and sprayed the ticks. That did the trick, though it took a while. She is now tick free. I switched to the Hartz for ticks and their Eggs. I also bought a spray for the yard (and house) and I would spray down the grass after I mowed it.

This should get rid of any pest that may get on your dog. Go to the health food store and get some brewer's yeast powder. Sprinkle a small amount, small being a teaspoon for a dog weighing 30-40 lbs. Do this daily for about 2 weeks then cut back to every other day for about a week, keep cutting back until it is once a week and then every 2 weeks. Don't think that if a little does a little good a whole lot will do a lot of good. If you do, you dog will get the runs and then you have a mess to clean up. If this is a very small dog, just a very, very small amount each time. The amount of this you use will depend on the weigh of the dog not the amount of pest that are on them. This will keep off all biting insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, ticks. Also, if you have the problem, just start taking B complex vitamins.

Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil in the dogs bath as a final rinse (1 cap full per 2 gallons of water) will keep them off as well as mosquitoes and fleas, you can even use this in your laundry to keep the pests off you as well. And you can also use Pine-sole mixed half and half if you can get past the smell. Sprinkle sulpher in the yard and it will run every insect problem off. I hope this helps. Its what I do and and it works!!!

Best of Luck,

When we first moved into our home, there were ticks everywhere, inside and out. It was disgusting. Even though it's an inside dog, spray your yard, put sulfur around the perimeter of your house and yard and spray bug spray that kills ticks and fleas in your house. you may have to do it more than once to get the new eggs that hatch out but it will be a start and less poison down the road. I have even put 7-dust powder on my dogs and that helps but you may not want it in your house???? There is also an interior powder for carpets that you can use for ticks and fleas. check at pet smart. Good luck!!
