Tiny Bumps All over Tummy

My family took a vacation last week where we stayed in a cabin and on the last day, I noticed tiny little bumps on my 2 yr old's back. The next day, my 3 yr old had them all over his tummy. They slept in the same room. No one else in the family has these tiny bumps. They are not complaining of itching or anything. It's now 4 days later (and we're home) and the bumps have not gone away. Could this be from bed bugs? I've heard of them, but not sure if this is it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

What can I do next?

I would wait a few days and see if it spreads or begins to go away. There is a virus that is part of the smallpx family that causes bumps, usually on the torso area. The bumps can stay for almost a year but are not contagious except through scratching. My daughter has one on her belly (looks like a pimple with a hard white spot in the middle) and the doc said it will eventually go away. Aveeno bath works great on rashes.

i'm not sure i've heard of them but never seen them, but I didnt know you can still get them.but I know that it could be chicken pox, scarletina, heat rash, pricklie heat, there are many types of rashes could be caused by fleas or even dermitis so my sugestion would be take her to the doctor and see what they say specally if its lasted several days.

Are you sure it isn't chicken pox? Are they feeling alright and not sickish?
It could be an allergy to something, maybe in the linens or a different food that they aren't use to or something they got into outside. You never know.
Get some hydrocortisone 1% cream from the drug store and put that on them twice a day. If it doesn't begin to disappear within about 4 or 5 days, now that you are home and in your regular routine, I would seek a doctor.

Hi M..
Yes, sounds like bed bugs. My friend adopted a daughter from the Ukraine and bed bugs were so bad that it took weeks after they got home for the red bumps to dissipate.
If they aren't bothering them, just let it be I guess. If it does bother them, get some Aveeno Oatmeal bath and let them sit in it every so often.
My best to you and your family.
Blessings, W. from Indiana

We took my 7 month old to the beach and the same thing happened. It turned out it was a reaction from a combination of the sunblock, his nylon swim shirt and the water. He only had these red bumps on his back and tummy for a few days and they didn't seem to bother him. I didn't treat it - they just went away once I stopped putting clothes on over his sunblocked skin. So it could just be a little reaction to something. If it doesn't go away I would talk to the doctor. Good Luck.

It wouldn't hurt to show your pediatrician. These could be anything from bed bugs to allergies to any number of childhood illnesses.
Mine got into everything from poison ivy to insects and chickenpox, etc. If they aren't going away, take them to their doctor.
Have you tried Benedryl? It could help speed the healing along even if they aren't itching.

I don't know if it is bed bugs or not, but I would take them to the doctor and let them decide. I am allergic to Tide laundry detergent. I break out in red bumps where ever anything washed in it touches me. No itching, just bumps.

My girls and I have had these also and they didn't itch or anything either. At the time, I chalked it up to heat rash, but they went away on their own... I'm not a doctor, though, so maybe give it a couple of days and if they don't clear up, maybe see the doctor. In the mean time, you could try the Aveeno bath stuff, though. It's the oatmeal bath soak. It really helped us. Good luck.
