Tired of Wearing Glasses

I have wanted to have contacts since I was around 12 years old, I am 31 now and have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old. I am kind of a weirdo though, I cannot stand the thought of touching my eyes. I am scared I wouldnt be able to put them in or take them out, mostly the thought of taking them out scares me. I even have a hard time putting eye drops in my eyes. So, my question is, are any of you like me? have you had a hard time but got used to it? is it really as hard as I think it is? I would really love to get contacts and have always wanted to be able to wear regular sunglasses, I had the transition glasses but hated them because it takes so long for them to go back to normal once you go inside, they stayed dark too long. so, did you brave the contact idea and come out on the other side happy?? TIA for your help!

What can I do next?

I was like that but I've been wearing contacts for 30 years. You get used to it REALLY fast and I promise, you won't feel a thing. Go for it!

I LOOOOOOOOOVed getting contacts. Changed my life. Go in a have an exam and fitting. They will give you a trial pair to test out for a few weeks before you buy. It WILL take PRACTICE. But you should get used to it. I have never heard of anyone who hasnt.

You sound JUST like me, except I got my glasses at age 3. I still wear my glasses. Can't say I love them, but they really are a part of me.

Once when I straightened my hair, my husband thought I looked "weird" and wanted me back the way I was with the curls. I think if I got contacts he might look at me funny. I think I look very different w/o them on.

When I first got contacts it really freaked me out, and for the first couple of weeks it took me a long time to get them in, up to 30 minutes the first day or two! But I kept with it, and now I can pop them in and out in seconds! It is worth it, there are times that glasses can be such a pain!

I was nervous when I first thought of putting my finger in my eye. I got used to it though and it got easier until I was to the point where I didn't even think about popping them in and out.

...then I got really crazy and paid someone to shoot lasers in my eyes! That was the best thing I ever did! LASIK was totally worth it.

Yes, I started off thinking I'd never be able to stick my finger in my eye. It honestly didn't take that long to get used to the process. The doctor will guide you through the application process and you'll see it's not that hard.

Tons of contact lense options these days. I have the daily disposables and love them because there's no cleaning process and I always know I'm putting clean lenses in my eyes, with no potential residue from other days. Unfortunately, I'm the one who posted here I'm likely going to have to change to glasses for medical reasons. Ugh.

I would definitely give contacts a try. Bet you love them!

Go suck it up LOL!! :) and get those contacts. They're fantastic! I think you will be so pleased when you make the switch. Give it a try. Takes some time to get used to but you adjust quickly. Stop hiding your face and enjoy. Have a nice weekend.

I didnt have an issue putting my finger in my eyes :), but I can tell you it ONLY gets easier as time goes. Initially I would need a mirror and both hands to put my contacts, but now I can do it even in a moving car with no mirror. (I've even changed contacts while I am driving) ofcourse I started wearing them in 10th or 11th grade, and I am now 31. :)
Hope this helps :)

It's really not that bad. I have been wearing contacts off and on since I was 12 or 13. Like someone else said, they will usually give you a pair to try before you buy a box. You'll probably have to pay for the contact exam first, though. I want to say it was an extra $60 if my mommy brain is working today.

I started wearing glasses at age 8, and contacts at 16. I hated both.

In January, I finally spent the money on LASIK surgery, and it was the best thing I ever did for myself! I can't even tell you how awesome it is to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and not have to fumble around on the nightstand for my glasses so I can see! And going swimming! Awesome! I can go swimming and see!!

LA-SIK! LA-SIK! LA-SIK!! Go for it!

My Mom took me to get contacts when I was 13 against my will! I was seriously not interested but my vision was so bad and getting worse and the doctor said getting contacts would slow that progression down. So I got contacts and started wearing them Back then there was only hard lenses and you started wearing them like an hour a day for a few days, then 2 hrs, then 3 etc - took months to work up to wearing them a whole day.

Now of course I wear soft, disposable lenses - I take them out each night but wear them for two weeks before switching. I LOVE contacts as opposed to glasses - peripheral vision, being able to see while swimming biking running etc is awesome. That said, I recently started consciously wearing my glasses more to let my eyes "breathe" more. i don't have trouble keeping them clean from lint - of course you have to wash your hands carefully before handling etc. THey do not feel like there's anything in your eye once you get used to them.

GIve them a try - you totally get used to touching the eyes.

I had the same fear, but the more you practice the better you will get. I started wearing contacts in college, but then I stopped because 1) my allergies would make my eyes itch, and the contacts would make them more irritated; and 2) my eyesight started getting worse more quickly compared to when I wore glasses. For example, my prescription would only change slightly from year to year, but after wearing contacts my prescription would change a lot; it was almost as if the contacts were making my eyesight worse. I never asked the doctor about it, so I guess it could've been coincidence, but it might be something to ask your doctor about. Could you get a pair of prescription sunglasses instead? I do agree with others, though; you could ask for a trial pair and see how you like them. Good luck!

The good thing is when you go in for an eye exam, let them know you are thinking about it but how you feel. They will usually give you a pair so you can try them.. Then you can decide if they will work for you,

I just answered another question about glasses. I will tell you the same thing. I now purchase mine off of this website. They are responsible, I have several pairs. You could even have choices to match outfits or the season..

And yes they can do sunglasses in your prescription.

I've tried them twice about 6 years apart. the lint thing drove me nuts trying to keep them clean. I would get head ached from how cold they were (from the solution) when i put them in. I did get used to touching my eyeball, but I stopped wearing them after about 6 months the first time and 4 months the second. Not for me. I've love to try lasik though.

It took my daughter around six months to get used to it. Now she will poke all over her eyes but it has been seven years. For the first few months I had to put her contacts in and take them out. You think it is hard to do yourself imagine doing it to your child. :(

I have tried contacts a few times, but I got frustrated with them. No one told me I'd have to stop wearing them when taking allergy medicine which would dry my eyes out. I would always have that scratchy feeling like an eyelash stuck in my eye and never get used to it. At night, I would see giant stars and halo glares around lights. I could never keep my contacts clean, I'd always end up with lint or carpet fibers or other dust on them. I had absolutely no trouble getting them in, but when it was time to take them out it was a different story. I'd end up pulling them out with a suction cup. And crying did not make them easier to get out.

If I'd been able to try the disposable lenses, I might have had a different experience, who knows.

I always thought I couldn't do contacts because the thought of touching my eye freaked me out. I finally bite the bullet and have worn contacts now for over a year. I love them!!! It took a little bit to learn how to get them in and take them out right but I'm not going back. And I love that I can have multiple pairs of sunglasses. One for each car! LOVE IT!!!

I have a major thing about my eyes! But I danced and played softball and got glasses when I was 10. By the time I was 14, I didn't have the depth perception I needed for softball, and I was doing multiple pirouettes that would fling my glasses off. (Granted, I could have gotten a strap to keep them on for that!) It took me two years before I decided to give contacts a try, but I finally did. At the dr. appt., they wouldn't let me leave until I put them in and took them out by myself. It took FOUR HOURS for me to get the first one in. But I did it. And it's awesome. I still have weird eye issues (I have to take my contacts in and out the old school way using both hands, can't just pop them in and out with one finger like most people can), but I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Can you afford Lasik? I would just do that and skip the contacts.
