Change him, quickly and quietly. A diaper rash will cause many more missed sleep opportunities, don't risk it!
my baby really needed one more nap today. I laid him down, but he just didn't fall asleep. so I put him in his reclining chair while I bathed. I watched him turned red faced and thought to myself, as soon as I'm dressed I'll change his diaper. Literally 60 seconds later I go to pick him up and he's fast asleep and the smell leaves no doubt that there is poop. Do you let them sleep in poop? I'm thinking of letting him go for thirty minutes. He is 6 months and never had any diaper rash before. thx.
thanks all. the nap lasted 15 min and I'm glad he got it. No diaper rash.

It would cause a rash, besides it STINKS. I'd change it and roll the dice that he might go back to sleep afterwards.
I could never let my kid sleep in poop.
Be a ninja.
Would YOU want to sleep in poop?
Always change the diaper!
I always changed the diaper. Our daughter had pretty sensitive skin.
I discovered the "baby wipes warmer", was a life saver. It seems the cold wipes are what shocked her awake.
Also if at night I was changing her diaper while she slept or was trying to wake up, , I did not turn on the lights, Instead I used the light from the hallway or the night light in her room. No talking etc.. Silent..
Helped her go right back to sleep.
I love all the honest answers....but must tell you that many years ago, about 25 to be precise, while I was a working mom, I quietly let my DD sleep in poo one night because she too was fast asleep and I did not want to disturb her and possibly me...and to this day I regret it. She got a bad rash, that took quite awhile to clear up, and the guilt creeps up in posts like this, to remind me that I was thinking of myself, not her.
A nasty diaper rash is way worse than 1 missed nap. I'd change him.
I changed my kids' diaper, when/if that happened.
My kids napped for like 2 hours.
Too long for poop to be in their diaper with them.
My kids still slept when I changed them.
I developed a stealth mode, when I did it.
LOL
Does your baby have diaper cream on his bum?
C. the poopie diaper! The diaper sucks all the moisture out of the poop and glues it to your baby's butt if you wait too long. And of course, it can cause a diaper rash.
I changed them always as it can really irritate their skin. Sometimes you can do it without waking them. If its pee I leave them be.
I, personally, live by the motto that one should never wake a sleeping baby. However, this is the one exception. It's not like you are alone in the car with him with nowhere to pull over on the expressway for several miles. You were home and knew he had a dirty diaper. He may have been sleeping through it, but sleeping through the resulting diaper rash might not be as easy.
I understand how badly he needed a nap, but there is no way you can agree that he needs a sore tushy.
The best option all around is to clean his little butt and get him back to sleep. He'll rest much better and wake up much happier with a clean diaper.
Just my opinion.
I always changed my daughter.
She was never prone to rashes, buuuut I always strived to keep her as clean as possible. I figured that if she was used to being clean, it would make potty training easier. ;)
Plus, most kids can sleep through a diaper change, or will fall right back asleep. Just warm up the wipes a bit before using them, so the shock of cold on his bum won't wake him up.
For naps, I never waked baby. I know this is going to sound very selfish, but I had so, so much trouble getting my oldest to sleep. When he did fall asleep, I wouldn't wake him unless the house was on fire!
If he pooped at night, absolutely I changed him and went through the process of getting him back to sleep. But wake him while he was napping? Never!
Leave the pee if needed, but change the poo. Best suggestion I ever got for doing the stealth change- get a wipe warmer. I used to think that sounded silly, but the nice warm wipe won't wake them like a cold one might!! They cost like $20, so worth it!!!
I became a pro at changing a diaper and never waking my kids while I did so.
If it was wet I would sometimes leave it but if it's poopie I never let them sleep in it. I'd wait a few minutes until they were in a deep enough sleep so they wouldn't wake as easily. I wouldn't let them go 30 minutes though unless we were in a car with no where to stop or something like that.
Morning
I wouldn't. However, when I would change my son's diaper in the middle of the night, oddly, he'd stay asleep. it was the cutest thing, I'd be cleaning him and he'd just be sleeping away..
In our case, I never let him sleep in that or urine, simply because he was too susceptible to a rash.. and when he got one, it would take awhile to truly go away...
My kids never did this, but I would never leave them in a dirty diaper because of how irritating it is to the skin.
It really depends on the situation. If your baby were a girl, I'd say absolutely change her. Sitting in poop can cause UTIs. For a boy, for me, it would really depend how mad I'd be if he weren't able to go back to sleep after the diaper change. There are some days that I absolutely needed my son to take that nap for everyone's sanity. On days like those, heck no would I have woken him up for anything.
In your case, I might have been inclined to change him. It sounds like he'd already had at least one nap that day. He had just fallen asleep - probably because he was more comfortable after the poop - it wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility he'd go back down after the change. But I don't think it's the end of the world if you let him sleep.
Definitely change the poop diapers. It's so irritating to their skin.
I'd change it. My daughter was too prone to diaper rashes to let her sit in it.
This is where the petroleum jelly comes in. With each diaper change, mine got a warm soapy (his soap) towel and then greased up! Poop didn't touch him. (The grease also makes it peel off very easily.) He just turned three and had never had a diaper rash.
I ALWAYS change for poopie diapers. I noticed that if my kids were in a poopie diaper for even just a little bit, their butt would get a bit red. I've put off changing in the past and it was the worst idea. If baby wakes up, then try to put him back to sleep. If you can't, then at least you know he won't have a sore butt.
