My toddler is obsessed with the moon. Besides GOODNIGHT MOON (which she adores) do you know of other moon books that are appropriate for this age?
Thanks a lot.
Wow! So many wonderful responses and terrific suggestions.
Thank you all VERY VERY much!!!

My girls loved Happy Birthday Moon by Frank Asch.
Here's the description from Amazon : "when a bear discovers that the moon shares his birthday, he buys the moon a beautiful hat as a present."
It looks like Asch has written a series of moon-themed books, but we've only read Happy Birthday Moon.
Also, Happy Birthday Moon is also included in the Goodnight Gorilla video from Scholastic (which is also wonderful) and can usually be found at the public library.

Goodnight Gorilla has a moon (and a balloon) in almost every shot, and it is fun for the kids to look for it on each page of the story.

There are two other books my toddler likes that aren't about the moon, but have the moon in the illustrations and she always says "there's the moon" when we are reading the books. They are Goodnight Gorilla (Peggy Rathmann) and The going to bed book (Sandra Boynton). My mom also has a book (I don't remember what it's called or who the author is) but it is a shapes book about a bug named "Bugsy" who is searching for the Crescent shape (and he finds the moon at the end of the book).

Hi,
We have the book "the moon in my room". It's a night light book so the moon in the book lights up. It's about going to bed and every time you turn the page the moon is still there. My son likes it. I think we got it at Target for about 10 bucks.
Go to your public library and ask the childrens' librarian. We have a similar issue with boot camp. We visited Paris Island last week, where my husband went to boot camp, and it made a HUGE impression on the kids. Our library didn't have any books on the subject that a 2 and 4 yr old could understand... but the librarian was able to do a statewide search and I just got a notice that there are 3 books waiting for us in reserves. The problem with our search was that my husband has done his tour of duty... most books are for those kids whose fathers are being shipped off.

They don't necessarily have to be toddler books. Get an astronomy book filled with lots of pictures...bet she'll love it. Good luck.

My son was also OBSESSED with the moon. Hilarious. The book "The Way Back Home" is very sweet and talks about unlikely friendships. For Christmas when he was two, we bought him a 'moon in my room' -- a wall light with remote control that looks like a moon -- and hung it at the head of his bed.

not sure if it is related to goodnight moon or not but my son has one that is called happy birthday moon and it is all about a bear going to the top of a mountain to say hello and ask the moon when his birthday is. It is really cute.
Also a way to help you is if you will go to Amazon. com and off to the side go to the book section then children's books and put in your child's age range and in the search box put in moon and it will bring up lots of moon books for you.

Haha, my almost 20 MO girl is also obsessed with the MOON! Last night's full moon we were dragged over to the window all night long. I'm curious as to what folks recommend as well, since we are now a moon-centric family. : )

Try looking up Happy Birthday Moon and No Moon, No Milk... also there's an oldie called The Legs of the Moon, that one might be a little old for her, but hey, it never hurts to read to them at a higher level, right? She just may get something out of it.
