My 2 1/2 year old has horrible constipation and I just feel terrible for her. She cries when she has a BM, and tells me that it hurts. She eats fruits and veggies all the time - and I thought that was supposed to help but it is not. Looking for any ideas how to help my daughter.
Thanks for your help!

I had the same problem with my daughter. We believe the problem was milk. I switched her to soy milk and that helped for awhile. I found that mixing benefiber with her juice helped and as a final result we consulted a pediatric gastroentrologist who prescribed Miralax. This proved to be the best solution. Good luck to you. I know how difficult it can be to watch your little one suffer through this.

A tsp of POM juice in water or diluted juice can help. A tsp Coconut oil is natural laxative and good for the brain, can be added on toast, waffles. A tsp Grounded flax seeds mixed in her cereal is excellent as well. whenever increasing fiber, you must increase fluids or else it will make the problem worse. The fiber bulks up in the large intestine causing more back up. Dairy is often a culprit of constipation. Rice milk is an excellent alternative, it is not as acidic in the body and has more nutrients and minerals than cow's milk. Good luck

Does she gets lots of fluids? Just ensuring she drinks a lot of water will certainly help. You may also try prune juice which also should help quickly.

What kind of fruits and veggies is she eating? Some of those can also create constipation. Also if she has restrictions in her lower spne and sacrum she could have a decrease in nerve input to her intestines and gut which would slow down the process of pooping normally. I am a chiropractor in Villa Park and I specialize in children and women. I would love to help you and your little girl with this. A few changes in diet, some adjustments to her little spine and teaching a different way of changing diapers ( if she still wears them) could help the problem. If interested in trying this natural drug and pain free approach just let me know. You can call me anytime at ###-###-####. I hope I get the opportunity to talk to you more and help your little girl.

I would talk to your pediatrician/nurse to find out some ideas from them and find out what foods can trigger/make constipation occur or make it worse. I have a friend who gives her 2 yr old benefiber to help w/ poop issues. I know when my daughter has had issues something that has helped her is drinking those DanActive drinks. If your daughter has a sensitivity to dairy that may not help but I know it is great for regulating and ensuring that the healthy bacteria are in the digestive system. I also take my kids to get adjusted when they are having digestive issues so if you are open to that, chiropractic may help. Good Luck- it is so hard to watch your kids go through things like this.

This is soo my topic!!! My 16 year old had this issue.. we had him even in hospital...

Now my 2 1/2 year old is showing same signs..

WE just had a colen test done on my older son.. HE was told he had a sharp corner in his colen that he is to take Mirolax.. IT Helps bring water to the poo.. and easer to come out...

he has not had a prob after he started taking it as needed.... He can regulate that on his own..

Now to Josh the 2 1/2 year old.. HE has been plugged up too.. WE saw a ped GI dr.. he told us.. HE is Full of poo... take him home.. give him 4 enema's 6 hour apart.. so 2 one day 2 the next.. WEll... 6 cups of POO later.. he was going great!!!! every day now... HE IS ALSO ON THE MIROLAX a table spoon each day.. has not missed a day.. even goes 2 times or 3 times a day..

HE was told he will be on it for a year... but WE are back to potty training.. he knew when he had to go Peee and that pooh stopped him from getting trained.. Now he loves going potty....

Good luck..

OH.. DONT GIVE YOUR CHILD apple juice!! Try Pear juice.. it is safer and wont bind them up.... Pears are good too.. but the specialist we saw said Most Poo issues are due to Apple juice!!

HUGS!!!
