It could be an allery???? Try cutting out gluten and see what happens. Hope he gets better soon!! Also, for his bottom, put some neosporian and desitian, that helped with my kiddos.

This could be an allergy of some sort. I would take to an allergist.

Have the doctor check him out for colitis or some other Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It's rare in such young children but it can happen.

Hi,

You may want to get him some probiotics to restore the balance of good bacteria in his system.

If the diaper rash is geting worse witht the use of the diaper rash cream, he may actually haev a yeast infection. My sone has recently had one after being on a course of antibiotics. This may sounds weird, but I put plain yogurt on his butt and let it stay for a minute of two. Patted him dry and put his diaper on. This restores the good bacteria and stops the painful bleeding yeast infection.

I hope this helps a bit.

I have had to do this for both my sons, one is 3.5 years and the other is 5 months old.

Try giving him powdered acidophilus bifidus. 1/4 tsp mixed in with yogurt or pudding. Twice a day. It puts the good bacteria back into his gut to solidify his stools. It will not constipate him either. It is safe and natural.

You can go to CVS and get Kids proboitic to add to his drink. This will help harden the poop. Also, the best diaper cream is by acqufor...it is for dry skin but it coats really well and will repel poop and pee. Put it on really thick! These two things are a life saver. We keep it in stock! Hope this helps. I am sure they care the proboitic at other places too. It is a white and pink box and they keep it behind the counters.

When my daughter, who is now 27, was a baby her doc told me to feed her Fritos for the fiber. Well it works and have used it since for us and several grandchildren.

Maybe he has something just under the radar.... that is not showing up in a test.
or, it is not bacteria or virus related. Meaning maybe it is something else.
Or, he is still ingesting something which is making him like this. Maybe something even topical.

I would, take him back to the Doc for a follow-up or the ER.
10 days is a long time... and you said instead of getting better it seems to be getting worse.
And his bottom is now raw.

I am surprised the Doc did not advise anything to you for him.

All the best,
Susan

My twin daughters went through the diarrhea bit and i was surprised to read that your only giving your child water and pedialyte....i always turned on their appetite to tasty crackers...popcorn..anything solid that isn't gonna give em a tummy ache...And that diaper rash cream...oh boy we went through so many brands trying to find the one that would actually relieve any pain....Until our Dr. mentioned corn starch, yeah that stuff sold by the flour and baking soda!. It was a blessing! That stuff did the job wonderfully, the pain was gone and the healing started right away....who wouldv'e thought a box that costed less than a buck would beat out all those more expensive creams....Corn Starch!!!

I know it won't make you feel better, but unexplained toddler diarrhea is quite a common occurence. My daughter has had stomach viruses where it took a solid two weeks for everything to get back to normal. She eats active culture yogurt nearly everyday AND I would give her an acidophilus capsule mixed in applesauce when she had a flare up.

The Fritos recommendation is kind of unusual since they contain 1 gram of fiber per serving...maybe they had more in the past. If fiber is the issue, there are plenty more helpful ways to get it in the diet.

For the raw bum...rinse several times a day with lukewarm water. A soak in baking soda bath will also help take out the sting...be careful...it makes everything slippery. Also, use a hair dryer on low to COMPLETELY dry the area before applying any diaper cream. Aquaphor worked great for us but I also used Bag Balm (green square can you can get at WalMart) to really get a good protective layer and healing properties.

P.S. Make sure that applesauce is the all natural kind...no added sugar or corn syrup. They can exacerbate diarrhea.
