You need to see a pediatric gastroenterologist. Ask your pediatrician for a referral.
My son had that at about 16 months, but it lasted a month, I think. His doctored ordered tests, and I had to collect stool samples. Everything came back negative, and it did eventually end. Yogurt, cheese and bananas can all help.
I'm not expert, believe me, but I would defenitely be asking more questions. Good luck!
I would stop relying on the pediatrician and get to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. If you have a local Childrens Medical Center or Childrens Hospital they should have a department that you can get your son into.
And since your pediatrician didn't come up with this pretty common sense idea in the past 2.5 years, I would find a new pediatrician.
Have you tried giving him probiotics daily? We use Kids Culturelle. You can get coupons for it on their website and it's readily available at Target and Walgreens.
Have you tried getting a second opinion? From what I understand, toddler diarreah really should only last a few weeks.
That's not normal. Can you be more specific in what you mean when you call it toddler diarrhea? It he going several times a day and it's loose? Im no doctor, so this is just my experience with my four, but usually 1-2 times a day is normal. Sometimes three times can be normal if they've had more fiber than usual.
Has the dr ruled out allergies? I'd look into gluten allergy (celiac disease) and dairy. I'm sure there has to be other allergies that can cause that. It's not normal if he's going 5 or more times a day every day...at least not in my opinion! Is he growing okay? Can you get a 2nd opinion?
Hi, I.. Has your pediatrician tested your son for Cystic Fibrosis? It's a simple test, doesn't hurt at all. One of the symptoms for CF is diarrhea, primarily because many with CF don't digest food without taking enzymes ...they take the enzymes with each meal and the diarrhea stops. I definitely am not trying to alarm you, because there are other symptoms and maybe your son doesn't have them. I definitely would consider seeking another pediatrician's opinion, especially if your current dr. hasn't done anything to help.
Hi I.,
So sorry you and your little one are going through this. Some thoughts based on what our dr told us:
1. Can you add probiotic stuff twice a day to his drinks or milk products?
2. can you serve him yogurt with acidolpholus or the good bacteria probiotic stuff?
