my ped. said the choice was mine and if i wanted my son to get the extra stuff i could do formula but he was breastfed until then so i didnt want to put the formula into his system. i gave him whole milk and he has turned out fine :)

They switch to whole milk until they are 2. I would also look at is the child a preemie or not. skinny or not? G. W

It all depends on you and your pediatrician. When my son's 1st-year molars were coming in, around 12mos, all he would eat for 2mos was applesauce. It drove me batty and I was concerned about his nutrition, and kept him on formula instead of switching to whole milk. At his 15mos appt, the pediatrician said that was a bad idea, and I should have switched to milk. Oh well :)

Waste of money. I got some free samples and my daughter would never touch the stuff!

My pedi said for children who don't have a balance diet, the toddler formula is good. Otherwise, whole milk is all they need.

There is no proof that toddler formula is better for them , I think it's just a money making ploy from the manufacturers

I feel the same way as most everyone else on here. I went to my daughter's 1 yr appt last week. Per my pediatrician, I took bottles away that day as well as switched her to whole milk. She said that the toddler formulas aren't necessary as long as the whole milk you give is vitamin enriched. One more interesting thing was that she said a healthy and avg 1 yr old should have 12-16 oz of whole milk a day. Just a fun fact. Good luck with the switch! :)
