What do u do for fun with your 17-18 month olds? My daughter doesn't talk much but she loves to imitate and follow wherever I go. I work all day, and the 2-3 hours I have at home with her at the end of the day before her bedtime are so precious to me, that I want to make the most of it. I play games with her and she has several toys and books but she tires of them quickly. She's not patient with listening to me read to her.

What can I do next?

Here are some things we do:

Dancing - In arms and on the floor. We also have some egg shakers that they like to shake to the music as well.

Tent and Tunnel - Great for Hiding and Peeking.

Laundry Basket Play - Climbing in and out, getting rides in the basket, pushing stuffed animals in the basket.

Stuffed Animal Play - Feed them, Kiss Them, Put them to Bed

Buckets - Just your basic beach buckets, they like to fill them and also wear them on their heads.

Movement Songs and Rhymes - Like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", also there are some books by Zita Newcome that have movement songs and rhymes.

Toddler Hide and Seek - I hide around the corner, behind the bed etc. and call out "I'm hiding"

Blanket Tent - Crawling around under a blanket together

Chase Games - "I'm going to kiss you", "I'm going to tickle you"

Drawing - They have sketchbooks and crayons available at all times to them. Sometimes I will put a giant sheet of paper on the floor and let them draw there.

Magazines - They have a drawer full of old magazines and catalogs to look at and also tear apart.

Bathtub Play - They love to play in the water coming out of the faucet and fill cups. I wish I had a faucet on each end.

Reading - I know your daughter doesn't sit still for long to read, maybe some lift the flap books and name-the-object books would be something she would like. My daughters LOVE the DK publishing books about real-world things (where I prefer to read the books with stories. I found most of our Lift-The-Flap books at Marshalls oddly enough.

Here are some of their favorites:

Arts & Crafts. They have non toxic, washable finger paints. She'd probably freak at first but then love it. You finger paint with her. Crayons and paper go a long way. Yeah she has no control of how to correctly hold it but you'll frame her scribbles anyway. They do get bored with the same old toys quickly. Be creative. Good Luck!

My 17 month old little girl, loves to be active...so she has a baby doll stroller and she takes her toys for rides, with Mom &/or Dad following her. She also has a tent and goes in and out of that a lot. She has a few balls (soft) that she loves to "throw"/roll back and forth to me.

Even the simplest things will be like a game to her....

play peek a boo, chase daddy, sing songs etc....

It's not about the game its about the time that you are playing with her.
