i'm not sure but my daughter has pulled her hair before and has pulled out what i felt to be quite a bit. i never really gave it much thought.
My daughter is almost 2 1/2. The other day I was running my fingers through her hair trying to get out a few knots (I was not pulling). I was surprised to find a small handful of hair (maybe 15 strands) come out in my hand. Then today, she pulled a small ponytail holder out of her hair, and about 25 strands came out with it. Is this normal? Her hair is so fine already. I don't know if I should be worried about vitamin deficiencies or other issues that could cause this. I believe I am gluten intolerant...so I'm also wondering about celiac for her as I believe hair loss is a sign.
Thanks.

What kind of ponytail holders are you using? Are you changing up her style each day? I know if you do her hair in the same style and the same way (tight pigtails on top, etc.) and are not changing it up a bit or parting in a different spot each day it can make the hair brittle and break off more easily. Also be sure to use the cloth holders and not the little plastic ones (if you do, not saying you are) as those can cause breakage also.
I was having the same thing happen to my daughters hair who just turned 2 this month and I had to start parting it different (it was always in a side part because it fell naturally that way and was causing breakage at the part) It is now starting to grow in better and not break off so much. Though she still always looses a few strands a day.
HTH! :)
Are they in areas that are possibly under stress, like in a braid or a pony tail for a long time? Stress on hair strands can weaken them and cause them to break and fall out. Unless she is showing other symptoms and is losing hair to the point of getting bald patches, I'm not sure how much I would worry about it.
a few strands is probably no big deal... my daughter has super-fine hair and it happens when I take out ponytails and clips sometimes.
If her hair starts falling out in clumps, or she develops "bald patches" - yeah, call a doctor! But chances are this "hair loss" is just because she has fine hair. My hair is super fine and I have ALWAYS lost hair from pony tails, tangles and brushing. I am a pretty healthy person now, and I was in excellent health through 99% of my childhood. If your daughter eats a healthy, balanced diet- is growing and developing at a normal rate, and has takes toddler vitamins to fill any "holes" I wouldn't sweat it!
(of course if you have other reasons to believe something is "wrong"- ask your doctor.... erring on the side of caution is seldom a bad idea)
