My friends had an adorable room for their girls. They painted light blue on the top half and then big huge blades of grass about 2 1/2 feet up the walls with a bright fun green. Then they bought the kid flower and butterfly wall lamps from ikea and hung them on the sides of the wall. I don't remember the bedding, but the wall painting and lights was memorable.

I found that with my daughter characters were overstimulating. She would always point out the different characters and tell massive stories about them and be up all night doing so. Because we're a military family we're forced to rent and don't usually have the authority to paint the walls. My daughters room is pink and white. I use pink in her bedding and curtains. I also use pictures of things like teddy bears and princesses and girly things to add color to the room. Hope this helps. Have a great time decorating.

My daughters is a lavender color and we are going to redo her room between the ages of 4 and 5 I'm going to leave the lavender color but paint one half wall with the chalkboard paint they have out now I thought that would be fun for her and it's just chalk so it wipes off Im then going to add polka dots to some spots on her wall with polka dot bedding something that we don't have to change again and that will grow with her plus the new bed she will be getting is awesome with a roll out desk underneath.

I've got my baby girl's room done in a nice pastel green. Her bedding is a handmade quilt from grandma with all pastel colors. I painted her shelves pink, did a cork board painted it pink, and put green fabric on the cork part so that we have a cute area for her artwork, and it's accesorized with pink/green pics and things with flowers and butterflies with sheer pink curtains. It's really cute!

Pink is supposed to be a calming color.
Certain colors will affect activity. Try research it online.

A good idea might be to paint it in a way that will grow with the child... otherwise you will need to redecorate at different ages.
So use accessories to decorate, which can be changed out quickly and more cheaply... pillows, lamp shades, area rugs etc. Walmart has lots of bedroom decorations for kids. Reasonably priced.

Use a latex paint... easier clean up with just water, easy to apply, and if dirty can be wiped clean. Use a finish that is at least semi-gloss... because "matte" paint will stain and attract dirt and it is hard to clean.

You can also put up alphabet or number type posters etc., and simply by "seeing" it everyday, a toddler will subconsciously "learn" the alphabet etc. Just an idea.

All the best,
Susan

hi
forget all those boring pastels that put you to sleep.. I LOVE la dolce vita ORANGE.. yes, I said orange and it's VERY pretty....... it's particularly beautiful at night when you have a light on because it becomes all warm and glowing... We have a nightlight that hangs from my son's ceiling that reflects all the stars and planets against the beautiful colored walls.. the ceiling is white... so that aspect is pretty basic.. apart from that, we wanted something different and bold and that was neutral for either a boy or girl. My son is also very artistic ,so this color is very fitting.... But if you don't try orange.. then try different shades, it needn't be your basic blue , pink or yellow.. try something that will go beyond her toddler years. Now, I know my son won't like orange all his life, but for now, at least until he is a teenager.. orange is it... and we all love it..

"Orange is the new pink " .... LOL

I have a 14 month old girl (we moved to a new home when she was 10 months) and we painted her room a pretty yellow. I added green gingham curtains, and have some pink accents (mobile, butterfly hold backs for curtains). I like it because yellow goes with all the girly colors, and I feel like I can add any to the room. I guess my "theme" is butterflies. My aunt made her a beautiful quilt that goes great in the room (it has butterflies) and I bought a neat fabric mobile and pottery barn curtain hold backs.

Good luck!

I LOVE wallies. www.wallies.com They are wallpaper cutouts in a ton of themes and many of them are huge. They go on and come off easily but they are like having a mural on the wall plus lots of great interior design like things. They are reasonably priced too. I have my b/g twin toddlers room done in castles - I used both the regular castle and the fairy castle for something that works for both of them. We have dragons and nights and fairies and they both love it plus its easy to change.

I plan on painting my daughter's room a muted green, almost a seafoam green. I found a border that i really liked at Hobby Lobby that has a forest scene and fairies. It's very cute. Other colors that are in the border are pink, yellow, cream, and different shades of green. I really like fairies and they make for good bedtime stories :o)

My 6 you still wants pink (purple would be a compromise). There are wall decals at walmart, target, sears, home depot, etc of her favorite characters, the best part is when you are done, you can just peal them off without ruining the wall. One thing I will caution you on, if you decide to do a border, do not put it in your toddlers reach. I did mine mid wall, thinking she could see it better, and she entertained herself at night by pulling parts of it off.

I kept my daughter's room very simple because I wanted it to grow with her (plus, she doesn't spend a lot of time there). The basic theme is that her stuff provides the color and interest...a book case of stuffed animals and books, a mirror from ikea, furnishings from ikea. The walls are painted a very neutral color...sort of a coffee flavored milk color. The room has an odd design that produces a fifth wall where the door is...I painted around it in abright magenta that I found in the oops pile at home depot. All over the rest of the room, I put of butterfly decals i found at the dollar store that will be super easy to remove when we are ready to recorate. These are grown up pix of butterflys that aren't cartoonish. Over the bed, which does not have a headboard, I put these two thin, rectangular mirrors. I covered the mirror part with notecards of butterflys. She has a simple ceiling fan from which I hung whimsical fan pulls. I also painted the paddles with a transculent pink paint that has pink heart confetti in it. I found a hot pink storage ottoman meant for a dorm or teen gilr's room at 70% off at Joanns. I don't really like traditionally curtains so I hung these neat bees and butterflys that her daycare had made out of pipecleaners from a curtain rod with bright colored ribbon. All in all it is a colorful room that has required no redecoration as she is getting older. And it all cost probably less than $50!

I saw a teenage girl's room in a book once that I thought would translate perfectly for toddlers - the walls were light pink (just a hint of pink) and the trimming was painted gold. Around the windows were also gold, drawn on the wall like a frame around the window. The furniture was all white with gold accents. The floor wa laminate with pink shag rug. It was so cute.
