So What Happened?

Thanks for everyone who responded.I did take her to the urgent care center. They were concerned that her fever has lasted so long(it was 101.7 that visit)They wanted to do a urine test but she wouldnt go potty and instead of doing a cath they gave me antibiotics for a urinary tract infection, they said all the symptoms pointed to that. They also said to give her live cultures=yogurt. So if shes not better in 3-5 days we go for further testing.Hopefully she will feel better soon, thanks again to all who shared their stories with me.Update :She is now 100% better.

I have a daycare here and the 4 youngest ones here had the same thing the past 2 weeks. They have done stoo samples and ran tests-just a viral thing...they stopped the stomach/intestine thing yesterday and now have a little cough and runny nose. she`ll be fine.

This year has been absolutely terrible for illnesses!!! My son, who just turned 2, had RSV about 2 months ago, and I had bronchitis at the same time. Was out of work with him for a week, then he had off and on runny nose and cough, then he and I both got full blown sick. Some weird virus, I heard on the radio and from a friend that it is something docs have never seen before--not the flu, but mimics the symptoms. Awful fever, body aches that were so bad I threw up, severe cough, runny nose, the works. Went to ER because the pain was so bad, and they said again, just a virus (but did put me on antiobiotics for a secondary infection). My son's doc said his was just a virus, all u can do is rest and fluids. Again out of work for a week and a half, but neither he or I were feeling completely better for atleast 3 weeks. It's just been such a terrible winter--as soon as one of us gets better the other is sick again. Several of my friends and their children, as well as my 2 nieces have experienced the same thing the past couple months. My good friend just spent 5 hours in the hospital yesterday, has a 4 yr old and 7 month old both dealing with this same thing.I would say if u would feel better to take her in, then do it...mommy's always need to stick to their gut. But it may just be this awful, lingering virus...good luck, and hopefully she will start feeling better soon!

Everything going around this year seems to have been extra bad. I had a fever for two weeks and it seems like everyone I've talked to has had something similar. But go ahead and take her in if you feel like you need to.

Hi P.---So sorry to hear that your little one has been sick for so long. I too have heard that this stuff just will not go away.

Fortunately, at my house, we've avoided catching anything this winter. I know that it is not a matter of luck. We are taking very proactive steps to protect our health.

I am taking a wellness class and am learning how to strengthen (avoiding colds and the flu) and balance (reduce or elimate allergies) through our diet, particularly by eating more fruits and veggies. But I'm also learning that our food supply is not as healthy for us as it used to be, so we supplement with a product made of 17 different fruits, veggies and grains.

There is independent research to show immune system support. Would you be interested in knowing more about how our diet influences our immune system? What would it mean to your family if you only had to go to the doctor for an annual check-up? Give me a call and we can talk. I am very passionate about helping others achieve optimal health. And I don't charge for 'consultations'.

Keep feeding your daughter mostly fruits and veggies and that will help. Lots of fluids, also, mostly filtered water. I look forward to talking to you. Good luck and have a wonderful weekend. In health, D. ###-###-####

My 3 year old had the same thing back in December. He had a very low grade fever for a few nights with one episode of vomiting each night for about a week (went to the doc, nothing wrong, virus), followed by a crazy cold, and then a 3rd week of just not feeling well. He was better, it took a while, but he did get better!

If she is finally eating normally after being sick for so long her tummy might hurt because it is getting used to digesting food again. I would stick to esy to digest foods.

Hi P.,

I hope your doctor appointment went okay. Yes, my kids are sometimes sick for a month. It seems like a lifetime, and I too start to wonder if they will ever get better, but they always do. Good luck. I hope she feels better soon.

my 2 1/2 year old has just entered her 2rd week of being sick...no fever anymore, but the cough & congestion is still there! it gets frustrating because the doctor just says - it's viral...nothing can be done! i always ask when/how long (of course the dr can't answer that!) and get to thinking maybe she's got another infection...and always wonder when or if i should bring her back to the dr. i just try to observe her closely and go w/ my instinct...not the best advice - but you're not the only one in this situation!

i work full time and she's in daycare...the dr says she's just exposed to more infections...i keep hoping she's building up her immune system and when she's in school, we won't be going through all these colds anymore!! am very interested in other responses! good luck!

Did your 6 year old just start school this year? Because if she did, she is probably the culprit! LOL When kids first start school they tend to bring home just about every bug under the sun, and of course it's worse in the winter months. It could be that your little one has had several different viruses, instead of just one long-lasting one.

Well I'm glad you have an answer for your daughter's sickness though I find it non-professional they would give an antibiotic without having a urine sample...

You can't now identify the germ and make sure 1/ it's a UTI and 2/ the germ is not resistant to this antibiotic

A UTI that gives a fever is serious, it means the kidney are infected and the infection can damage them especially if the infection is left untreated so having the right treatment is important !

And if it's not a UTI you won't know either now... if she's still sick with a fever despite the antibiotics or if the antibiotics work only partially it's not good...

Hopefully she'll get better soon with the treatment she has !

I don't have much advice, but just wanted to let you know you are not alone right now. My daughter has her 2 year molars coming in, she just got a cold, and just got glasses that are upsetting her tummy. She is a mess! I will tell you that Mommy knows best and is you think she should be seen then I would take her to her normal pedi. I took my daughter to the after hours clinic for a 103 degree fever and they sent her home. I asked them to look at her diaper rash while we were there also. Well we sent to the pedi on Monday (still with a 103 fever on motrin) and she had an infected diaper rash caused by an allergy to her diapers. The clinic was useless! and her pedi agreed that they are, he said next time call him and he will take care of everything.
