Toddler Has an Internal Yeast Infection

I am pretty sure my daughter has an internal yeast infection, so using topical creams aren't going to help. Is there anything I can give my 2 year old to help cure this? Natural or over the counter? Do I need to see the doctor for this? Many thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I ended up taking my daughter to the doctor yesterday who comfirmed she had a yeast infection but it was external to my amazement. I saw discharge, the area was red and there was an order, so thought it was internal, and didn't look anything like diaper rash.

The doctor told me to apply Niastin (perscription) or Gynolotramin (spelling) which is basically the same thing but in an over the counter application. Just apply the cream to the outer area only and it will fix the problem. We also give her yogurt daily but since she was on antibiotics last week, I think that threw her off, and we are potty training. Again thank you to everyone, what a great group!

I have a 2 1/2 year old who reguarly gets yeast infectiona and has done so since she was 15 months old. She started getting them as a reaction to antibiotics she was allergic to and now reguarly gets them. When ever she sart complaiing about being sore or itchy or strts scratching her vagina or when I notice that is it very red I give her children's powdered probiotics. Initially she could tell if I sprinkled them over her cereal so she would get this special treat of some juice (she ever gets juice to drink - just water) and I would mix them into a small amount of juice and give it to her in a toy tea cup - which she thought was a special treat!!

Probiotics cannot harm her and I have found they help with a variety of problems - yeast infections, keeping her regular when she may not have been for a few days, warding off a cold (amazing what they can affect).

Anyway you probably do want to have her looked at but in the meantime I definately woud suggest probiotics.

Good luck.

Take her to the Dr.!!! It is very hard to tell at this age what is going on down there for lack of understanding it themselves and being able to explain it to you. It could be yeast, it could be bladder it could be nothing. You can make it worse though by treating the wrong thing…so best to be sure.

I agree to take her to the doctor for a diagnosis. Even a woman needs to have it diagnosed the first time to be sure. However, if it is yeast, children's powdered probiotics will help restore the balance (any health food or vitamin store should have it.) I would also be curious as to what caused it (diet, antibiotics???) A helpful book if you are interested in more info on yeast is "The Yeast Connection." It shows links to ear infections, ADHD, respiratory ailments, etc... It made me go,"Hmmm..." Good luck!

I have heard if left untreated those infections can make you sterile. Those are so painful too. I would go see the Dr A.S.A.P. also feed her yogurt.

I would say you need to take your daughter to the doctor. If it is a yeast infection (which the doctor should probably see to make sure it's not something else), any of the creams and things out there are probably way to strong for a 2 year old. I would say take her in, I'm sure they have something a child can take to cure a yeast infection...but it's probably prescriped.

I was allergic to polyester shorts when I played basketball, next thing I know I had my first one at age 14. It was aweful, There are creams that don't harm the skin. A doctor can prescribe medicine for her. She can be allergic to certain soaps, the yeast infection attacks the lips that protects her private area. I would say have her wear lose clothes so it doesn't irritate the skin.

It is NOT NORMAL for a child to have a yeast infection of their genitals - and if she does have one, chances are there is something else very serious going on that needs to be taken care of.
You should never "guess" about these sorts of things, and you should never use medication on her, even topical, if you don't know for sure what she has.

Take her to the doctor today.

Take her to the doctor now!! You have no idea what could be going on down there. It is also not normal for a 2 year old to have yeast infection so if she really does have one it might be a symptom of something worse.

STOP JUICE ! and all processed sweets. Probiotics 3 x day in capsule form plus tons of unsweetened yogurt/ kefir is most effective you can make it yourself - email me if you need to learn - it's very easy. If it's really bad go to a natropath - they have special persciptions. There are herbs you an look up that help but as you know it's a matter of balancing the good and bad bacterias. Cut way back on fruit for the healing period as well heavy starches - sweet and plain potaotes pasta - focus on good protien meals, good fats broths, lots of greens some kids like sour so sourkraut - has the good bacteria too. Its a job but worth it -

Get her to the doctor right away as he/she is the only one to make that call. You don't want to self treat. Yeast infections can also be symptoms of other issues or accompany other issues.

For girls, avoid all bubble bath products. They cause lots of problems with irritation and infections...it makes a huge difference in getting those. Frequent changes, cotten pants help too.

if you want natural you could try giving her acidophilus. its something commonly found in yogurts, but also comes in pure liquid or capsule form....they don't taste as good and aren't easy to swallow. i get a yeast infection about every three to four months and my doctor told me to drink keifer...the drinkable yogurt. it really helps. good luck.

You will need to see your pediatrician for this as the OTC medications are made for adults.

Do give her yogurt and cranberry juice to help with pH in the bladder and to regulate the flora inside her body.

Absolutely you need to see a Doctor. A yeast infection can be very uncomfortable and can cause worse problems if left untreated.
