My 2 year old apparently stuck a small raisin or bit of dried fruit up her nose at breakfast this morning. I was in the kitchen and didn't see it, but she started crying about "raisin come out". I couldn't see the raisin, but I flushed her nostril with saline nose drops (she did NOT like that) to see if I could make her sneeze it out. After a while of sneezing and runny nose, I could see the raisin, but she wouldn't let me get near her to get it before she sniffed it back up. 2 or 3 times it got close to coming out, but she wouldn't let me get it. Now, I don't see anything, her nose isn't runny and she hasn't mentioned it. Do I assume it came out, or will come out on it's own, or is this a trip to the doc even if she isn't obviously uncomfortable? Thanks!
I did eventually call the doctor. She mentioned the blow in the mouth trick, which we did, but nothing came out. She said to watch for signs of infection and bring her in if anything changes, else she has probably gotten rid of it herself. My daughters nose isn't running, and she hasn't mentioned it today, so I am hoping we are in the clear.

I haven't seen the other responses so I don't mean to be repititous. Plug the opposite nostril and have her blow fairly hard. Should shoot right out...Good Luck
Well, my children have never done this, but I did as a child. The items never came out and about a week later I smelled awful from the food that was going bad in my nose. I had to go to the doctor to get them removed. Good luck and hope this helped.
I would go to the emergency room if you have not yet. It is better safe then sorry. Next time, pin her down afte the saline, plug the nostril behind the raisin and pull out with tweezers. And, tomorrow, when things calm down, use this to teacher not to put anything in her body except food mom has prepared.
My friend's son put a nut in his nose and inhaled it all the way into his lung! The problem was misdiagnosed as RSV, before they figured out that he had a nut in his lung, and did surgery to remove it. Watch for breathing issues, and do not hesitate to go to the doctor or hospital!
I would get her checked at the doc's office. If you haven't seen it, it could mean it's lodged way up inside.
Some kids don't learn the first time and will do it again. Take her to the Dr. to make sure it is out! You don't want an infection from things they stick in there nose.

My son went through that phase when he was about three. The first thing was a carrot slice, I don't remember what the second thing was but the third was a pebble. We called our pediatrician (on call because it was after hours) and asked them what to do (we went to Kaiser then) and they said to bring him in. We asked if we could wait until the next day because it's cheaper and they said it's best not to wait. It can cause sinus infections and other issues. I would take her in, you'll never know if it's there or not unless a doctor checks.
My son did this around age 2, and it was probably an hour before I realized what he had done- I could Barely see it and used a pair of tweezers to pull it out. Worked perfectly!
like mucus, she could have sniffed it up and down her throat into her stomach, meaning if she doesn't seem to have any problems, everything is probably ok. i would just watch her for signs just in case.

Mine stuck a popcorn kernel up his nose. We took him to the doctor, he couldn't get it out so he sent us to the ER. Like Ann, they had us plug the other nostril and blow through is mouth (he did NOT like that). Finally, we had to take him to a ENT specialist who put him under to get it out.

You could try the old farmer blow trick: Take a good breath, pinch the clear nostril and blow the raisin nostril to see if it comes out.
If not, you might want to head to the doc to see if he can get it out.
Get to the doctor and get it removed. It could cause a big infection.
My son did this a little over a year ago, and I couldn't get it out (It was a small plastic disk, like the size of a button battery). I took him to the walk-in clinic, thinking it could be dangerous. they charged me $400 for me to hold one nostril (the unplugged one) and blow in his mouth. It came down far enough for the dr to grab it then. So, try that. Just plug the unplugged nostril and blow in their mouth like you would do CPR, and with force. It didn't bother him at all. And it'll save you a trip to the dr's! Good luck!
Dear E., I have heard of children putting things in their nose and ears. My parents even have a story about me putting a tiny pearl in my ear. Dad popped it out with a needle slid slightly underneath the edge of it.
While living in Tennessee I saw a little boy in the doctors office with his forehead all swollen. I alway's thought it was kind of different in the Hills. Anyway, he had put a dried bean up his nose. AND it SPROUTED!!! Because of this strange story, I would take your daughter to the doctor. I would love to hear what happens in the end and I hope she is okay.
My toddler put a raisin in her nose. I had trouble getting it out. Once I could see it, I stuck it with a toothpick and pulled it out easily. If you aren't sure what happened with the raisin, I'd take her to the doctor. Also, I had a little boy at a preschool who did this with a rolled up piece of paper. Suddenly he sneezed and out it flew!
I just wanted to give you some advice for future things stuck up your toddlers nose:) plug the opposite nostrile and blow into their mouth, it will come flying out:)
I think you don't have to take her to the doctor if she isn't uncomfortable (maybe it went into her throat and she swallowed it) but if there is a smell, take her to the doctor right away. My son stuck a candy up his nose a while ago, and that's what the doctor's office told me. (My son never had a problem, the candy disappeared.)
Ah, the joy of things up the nose...I, personally, inserted a bean, bit of balled-up tinfoil, and ball of crayon wrapper (I think that's how the story goes) into my nose once long ago (I think I was two, as well). Fortunately, I did sneeze it out, but only after my parents took me to the doctor.
On the other hand, my nephew had to have a bean (must run in the family) removed...I would take her in to be sure. It's better than a visit later due to infection. At least maybe try calling the nurse at your pediatrician's office for advice?

We just had a bead incident ourselves. We did go to the pediatritian during regular office hours. I would call the Dr. and ask them what to do, they will probably want to see her. I would not go to the ER or anything, just call the regular office number. Good luck!
You need to take her to a doctor. It may still be in her nasal/sinus cavity and it cause of alot of problems (infection) if left in there.
Go to the Dr and make sure. Having something stuck up the in her passageways can cause infection. Take her in to make sure. It may have fell out, but just to be safe I would definitely have a Dr look up there.
A child that age will let you know if it hurts. I bet she sucked it down her throat. ( Ever sniffed back a big bugger and the felt it go down your throat... sorry to be graffic). I would just keep an eye on her for the next day or so. If she get a fever or showes signs of discomfort... then take her in.
Reminds me of my step brother sticking a small rock up his nose. He was just old enough to blow it out himself. It is amazing what we survived as kids, LOL.

My oldest son stuck several things in his nose when he was small. A couple of times we had the doctor pull it out. But they also told us to plug the opposite nostril and blow in their mouth. I have done that several times with my other kids and it works great. Just blow pretty hard so the air will go up through the back of the throat and push the opject out.
poor baby... bet she'll think twice about doing that again. Have you tried plugging on of her nostrils (alternatively) to see if she can breathe through both of them?
if so, i probably would worry more if it were a harder object... like a rock or something. she could have just sucked it down her throat. But it might not be a bad idea to take her in and have them take a look....
i guess i should be glad all my daughter seems to like sticking up her nose is her finger...
if there is no trace of the raisin being out i would take her to the doc to make sure that it isnt lodged in her sinus cavity. It could have come out but i think she would have showed it to you or something. Might be worth a copay to get it checked out. Kids why do they find it intruiging to stick things in holes, even their own?
