Toilet Training Underwear?

My 20 month old refuses to keep a diaper on, so I'm finding myself chasing her all day with a diaper in hand. She rips it off and pees all over the floor. I know she is interested in potty training, and I would like to get her some absorbent underwear that has a waterproof outercover so that her clothes and the floor don't get soaked with every accident. I've seen several different brands online...Nikky and Mother ease, but am wondering if anyone has used anything like this, and if so, what brand would you recommend? I have the padded Gerber underwear but they don't protect clothing, floors, shoes or surfaces!

Thanks.

Best advice I got:
let her pick out the underwear she wants and then put a pull-up OVER it to prevent messy accidents. :)
It worked great for my daughter.

Plus, she loved the Elmo Potty DVD...

Try a different potty if needed. I like using the Baby Bjorn potty seat. Some kids prefer the separate potty chair...

Best wishes,

I know EXACTLY what you're going through!! My second son did the same thing and it was a pain in the butt to chase him to keep it on especially when it was time for him to go to bed and in the middle of the night it's off and in the morning comes out with nothing on and I began potty trining him and he was following his brother with potty training and they are about 1 year and 3 wks apart and he was succesfully potty trained two months before he turned 2 1/2 year old. Have you tried potty training her? Let us know how it goes and I have not tried any of the outer wear things. I just kept working on him and it was a hard work with him doing that...ha,ha,ha....some days it was not ha,ha,ha. I pray that Jesus will give you His wisdom if you ask Him.

Have you tried putting her diaper on backwards. This may work for a while until she figures that out. What about pull-ups their more like underpants as they don't have tabs. But are easily removeable.

I also use the Gerber training underwear with the plastic covers. Something else you could try is the training underwear with a pull-up over them to keep the mess in.

pick up a package of gerber rubber pants since you already have those underware. then when there is an accident, you can rinse out the rubber pants and throw the unders in the wash and put on fresh.

Hi D.,
Gerber makes some good ones.. If you put in girls training pants in ebay, you will find what your looking for. I found 4 pair for 12.99 and they worked great with my girls. They hated getting them dirty, lol.. Also BumberChute makes some but I have only seen them for boys. Good luck,.. F.

Just because she takes off her diaper doesn't mean she's ready to toilet train. One of my 28 month old twins refuses to keep his diaper on. We've tried putting it on backwards which did not stop him. He just wants to have control over he situation, so I have taken to duct taping his diaper on him.It saves wasted diapers, large messes, wet sheets and my sanity. Hope this helps.

gerber makes a waterproof version and that is what i have, but it is easy to get a heat rash and i don't recommend using them overnight. my daughter does the same thing. for a while we put her diaper on backwards and that worked for a while, but she can get them off now. not sure what to do.

I have a set of twins who did and continue to do the same thing at 3. I bought and tried the gerber training pants as well as the plastic ones that go over regular underwear. They were useless. Not worth the money in my opinion. So I either just use underwear and continue to change, change, change, lol, or still keep trying to keep pull-ups on them. All you can do is keep trying to keep what ever you choose on the little boogers. During the summer, i let them run wild, lol, the UPS man even is used to it, lol....Good luck

I have used the ones they sell at leapsandbounds.com. I forget what they are called though. I'm sure you can find them if you go to the website and search potty training.
They will hold a lot of pee and not leak if you get to her quickly, (before she sits down or moves too much). If you don't catch it fast enough there will be a mess. If you are serious about potty training, it will actually help you notice her potty habits better because you have to pay more attention.
I've tried Gerber and Potty Patty (from pottytrainingconcepts.com) and I found that these ones are the best.
Good luck!
