If i is I am in trouble! We had tomato soup last night. My fovorite fruits are all tart-grapefruits and oranges! I have an 11 week old!
Can I have tomato soup while breast feeding. My son is 3 months old and have little cough. As some one told me one should not have sour things as weather is getting cold and baby already have cough. Is that true?
I had my bowl of soup...loved it..thanks everyone... :)

Ugh, another bit of nonsense parading as advice. Ignore her.
Never heard that one. I pretty much ate everything.
I was told I could eat whatever I wanted when I was breastfeeding. With the exception of lots of caffeine. I would go with a lower sodium option though. I always buy the lower sodium, or make it myself.
Eat whatever you want unless you find it causes problems for the child (my DD spit up more when I ate a lot of fish, but now she eats fish all the time). What you eat shouldn't affect his cough.
Now you have ME wanting tomato soup!
ETA: I'm glad! I had some tomato soup, too, thanks to you. :)
Never heard of anything like this. Although I had a friend who breastfed and everything she ate did effect the baby, gas, farting, belching, cooing, etc...so I know food does make the milk taste different and does have an effect on their tummies too.
I suggest you try it if you want it and see if the little one likes it or hates it.
I'm a peer breastfeeding counselor with Nursing Mothers Counsel (Bay Area). and you can eat anything you like. The only time you should eliminate something from your diet is if you notice that your baby has a negative reaction a couple hours after eating a food. The main culprits are dairy, citrus fruits, cruciferous veggies and beans (anything that causes gas in mom can cause gas in baby), and chocolate. Not all babies are sensitive to foods, and some babies may be sensitive to just one thing (like my son was sensitive to green peppers).
Breastfeeding is the perfect thing when mom and/or baby are under the weather. When baby feeds at your breast, the germs from baby's mouth get on your skin and are absorbed into your bloodstream. Your body then makes antibodies, which you pass back to baby through your breast milk :) The female body really is amazing!
Nurse on, mama!
Well I wasnt suppose to eat peanutbutter. Didn't find out until my baby was in my belly for a while. She is not allergic to peanut butter . LOL so I suppose i'm not the best one to ask.
No. If your baby was having tummy troubles then you wouldn't want acidic foods or spicy foods but tomato soup isn't going to make a cough better or worse.
You can absolutely have tomato soup. I've never heard that sour things are bad for babies while breastfeeding... and in fact, I ate tons of sour things (loved pickles!) and I don't think either of my girls suffered.
If your baby is getting sick, breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for him. And your body will remain healthy and happy if you eat the foods YOU love.
Honey, you can eat anything you want while breastfeeding, because your body processes it first. Eat what you love.
Sour things may sting your throat but they will not affect your baby's cough. It's the presence of the acid on the tissues in the throat. I suggest that is the basis of the "old wives' tale." Tho I've not heard this specific one. The food is processed by your body. They will not be anything sour in his milk.
I do stay away from sour and spicy when I have a sore throat. It's just common sense because those foods do burn my throat.
