My period is due this weekend but I'm wondering if I'm pregnant. Is it too early to take a pregnancy test now? Do I need to wait until the 1st day after my period is late?

What can I do next?

Hey - I was supposed to get my period today, according to www.fertilityfriend.com, so I took one of those "5 days early" tests. It was positive! Big shocker, as I'm not having any symptoms, and this is the second time around. But good news anyway!! Sooooo, you might be able to tell this early - it's always fun to find out!

I received a false negative 4 days late. I waited 2 more days and it was positive. Everybody's body is different. You may be able to tell and you might just be wasting a test.

Once the fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall your body starts producing a hormone that shows up in your urine. The pregnancy test should detect it and show a positive. My period was two days late before I thought to take a test and then the "second line" was so light that I thought it was a negative. I called my doctor and she said that if the hormone wasn't in your urine the second line wouldn't show up at all. Good luck!

There are a few tests out there that say they can give you results a couple of days before your period is due, but you may bet a false neg and be very dissapointed (or falsly relieved depending). It would be best to wait 'til the day of or a couple of days after.

The First Response says 5 days before a missed period and I took mine with both kids at 9-11 days past ovulation and it was negative but on the 12th day after ovulation so day 26 of my cycle since I ovulate most months on cycle day 14 so yea, I got a faint positive. Barely there but was there.

no you don't have to wait just get a 5 day sooner than your missed period pregnancy test.. then take it 5 days before your missed period.

There are many tests that can say you can use up to a week before your missed period, but the sooner you use one the higher chance of negative result. The hormone levels have to be high enough in your body. My period was almost a week late before I finally got a positive test with my test (after many dissapointing negatives). If you can afford to buy a few tests then it wont hurt to do one early if you really want to know, otherwise they day after is probably your best bet. Good luck on whatever you find out!

i have always tested the first pee in the am when I wake. That is when your urine is the most concentrated and you will have the best chance of accuracy and I think you could easily do it today or tomorrow and if it is neg than try again after your period is due. It is all about you and how you feel and what you think. Good Luck!

I took a pregnancy test on a Tuesday and my period wasn't due until Sat. If you have the Hormones in your body which is what a pregnancy test looks for, it will show up that early. If you feel symptoms, I would do it, but know that you may have to re-test later in the week. Good Luck!

C.,

First Response sells pregnancy tests that are supposed to be accurate up to 5 days before a missed period. I still got a negative test result when I was pregnant and took it that early. I know that waiting is hard, but you may just want to save your money and wait for the weekend.

Good luck,
S.

Hi C.,
I work in a lab and I can tell you that your test will be more accurate the longer you wait. While some tests can catch a positive pregnancy before you even miss a period, it will be more accurate if you wait about a week after missing your period. (Having said that, I took two or three tests with each of my kids, one before I even missed my period too. It's too hard to wait!)
Another thing that improves accuracy is waiting to use your first morning void of urine. It will be concentrated because you haven't been drinking anything overnight. The more concentrated, the more likely that if you are pregnant, the test will pick it up.
Also, make sure you follow your test kit's directions carefully. Especially the parts about reading the test results.
Good luck!

I have heard of some women getting a positive result that soon, however, with both of my daughters, I was unable to get a positive until my period was at least two weeks late! So don't be disappointed or discouraged if you do take one and it turns out negative. My best advice would be to wait at least a week, but I know that's easier said than done especially when you are excited and dying to find out. Best of luck!

Hi C.,
I'd say if you suspect, go ahead and take one (what does it hurt?). The tests I have say that they can detect pregnancy as early as 6-8 days after conception. I got them for very cheap online at http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com. They ship same-day and have free shipping of orders of $15 or over (or something like that). Just a note-when I got pregnant with my son, the second line was very faint and I wasn't sure I was really pregnant. It turns out though that the intensity of the line depends on the amount of the hormone present and at the very beginning it's going to be less, causing the faintness of the line (you probably knew that though, since you have two little ones already!) Good luck to you! : )
