Tooth Infection

I have a tooth I didn't take care of right away. Now I have an infection. My dentist office is closed on Wednesdays. Do you think I could go to a ready med to jump start taking an antibiotic. I'm not sure what they will do there? If it will be waste of time and they'll tell me to wait for the dentist or not. I am also not sure I'll be able to be seen right away at my dentist, might take a couple days to get in.

So my question again is do you think the ready med will give me an antibiotic, so that I can start earlier than I would if I waited to see the dentist? (I'm still planning on making an appointment with the dentist as soon as possible)

What can I do next?

Some dentists now have a antibiotic that they place right on the infected tooth with a syringe (does not hurt-just uncomfortable) or into the infected gums-it is kind of like orajel. This is better for you as it treats the tooth, not your entire body. It is expensive, about $37.00 per treatment (some health insurance plans do not cover this.)

I used to work in a dentist office. If you take 2 parts peroxide and 1 part water mix it and swish it in your mouth for 60 seconds and spit out Do NOT RINSE mouth when done. The bubbles help clean the infected area. Repeat this a few times per day until able to get into dentist. It also helps with the pain associated with an infected tooth. Best of luck to you.

When I had an abses (sp?) I went to my clinic first for the antbioticand was told to take the full couse before seeing the dentist because the dentist couldn't do anything untilthe infection was gone.

put whiskey in it till you get to the dentist and rub it on your gums both sides. whiskey isnt always bad and I have done it before till I could get into the dentist.

I would call the dentist (they should have some kind of an emergency number) and ask them what to do.

They most likely will give you an antibiotic, my doctor did when my tooth got infected and swelled up my jaw. Also, if you can't take the peroxide taste, use warm salt water several times a day. This has kept my tooth from getting reinfected as I'm a big chicken and keep putting off the dentist appointment I know I need. It's been 4 months and no recurrence of infection, I just brush it 2x a day, make sure food doesnt' get stuck in it (theres a pretty good hole there now) and rinse with salt water when it bothers me even a little bit.
Good luck, nothing worse than tooth pain :/

Yes they probably will and then call your dentist as soon as you can. If it is draining then he can do something because mine was able to with my infected tooth. Do not wait too long, I did and ended up having to have the tooth extracted because it was too far gone. Also sounds like the peroxide rinse will also get you by, glad to know about that myself. Good luck
