I have a 9 month old son. approx. a month ago he got his first tooth on the bottom left. I was under the impression that his second tooth would come in very quickly after that, but there isn't any sign of it! every person I've talked to said their kid's teeth came in one right after the other. I'm just wondering if any one else's kid has had this happen. seems a little unusual to me. thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks everyone for helping soothe my worries. my son is now 11 months and has 4 teeth, 2 on top 2 on the bottom, and appears to be getting another! i guess these things just work themselves out in their own time, and it was very helpful to hear all of your advice.

Don't worry, babies are all different. You can't go by what other babies do as far as progress. Just relax. My daughter had 4 teeth by the time she was 9 months old - but her cousin didn't get her first tooth until she was almost a year! Relax, his teeth will come in when they are ready. :-)

Kids teeth come in differently. I don't think you need to worry. My older son had them all come in pairs. My younger had them come one at a time and later than the books say. In fact, his last 2 year molar is finally through and he's 2 1/2! The only problem is that you have more teething time to deal with. Sorry about that!

B.,

I have a 9 1/2 month old girl and she went for her well check yesterday and my daughter doesn't have any teeth at all. She said she is just a late bloomer and she will get all her teeth at once.
I wouldn't worry every baby is different she told me.

Every baby is different. My son had his first tooth at 5 months, and a second at 6 months, but didn't get any others until he was almost 11 months. My doctor said it was all normal and not to worry unless they never come and their gums get so swollen it looks painful. Good luck with the teething. I used Humphrey's teething tabs for those bad days, they are allnatural tabs that dissolve in the babies cheeks and help with the pain and swelling ( loved them ) Good luck!!!!!

Your baby's teeth will come in when they are ready. A neat thing is that he will also lose them in the same order that they came in. My baby got his canines before his lateral incisors... was kind of wierd but he has 'em all now. Relax and enjoy your baby's crooked little smile.

My son got his first tooth at 5 months old, his second tooth at 7 months old, his third tooth at 11 months old, his 4th and 5th teeth at 14 months old, and then he got the rest almost all at once when he was 17months old. Having no teeth didn't slow him down in the eating department either. That boy was eating meat with 5 teeth. My daughter got her first tooth the day she turned 7 months old, and by the time she was 9 months old, she had all but her molars, and she got those in right after she turned 1.

My sons first tooth was the bottom, his left and then awhile latter he got his top two together and then the bottom right finally came in. Then he got his molars and is missing his k-9's! I think the top two are pushing through now, but I remember thinking they would come in perfect order! I wouldn't worry -as far as I know it is very normal!

All kids develop differently. I have a friend who's kiddo got teeth all over the place. Not in the order they "normally" come in. I wouldn't worry.

Hi B.,

I had a similar experience with my son's first tooth. He got his at around 8 months and the next tooth didn't come in till 10 months. He got two huge teeth on the top by 11 months. So don't worry...sometimes its hard to cut the first few.

Hi B., your question made me remember my girlfriend's son... he was 12 MONTHS before he got any of his teeth! He cut 4 all at once right before his birthday. So it does happen... they aren't toothless for long in the bigger scheme of things! :)

Hi, my son got his first tooth at around 10 months, then the second came in a little after that. He just had those two teeth until he was 14 months, then his top two teeth came in one right after another. Those are still coming in and I just found another one on the bottom that cut through, without me even knowing. My son is going on 15 months and just has his 5 teeth, his two cousins are a few months older than him and they have 10-14 teeth. Some kids are just different than others. I looked at it the positive way that at least we don't have to go through the whole teething thing at once.

It goes in spurts. Some of my daughters teeth came in 1 right after another. Others seemed to take forever. It also depends on the child. I got my last tooth in when I was 13!
