Hi Moms,
Do any of you have any toys for 1 year old girls that you totally love and would recommend? My daughter is turning 1 next month and my parents want to know what to get for her. She's not exactly asking for anything, ya know, so just wondering if you all have any suggestions. (By the way, we have an almost 4 year old boy and still have all of his toys and she is perfectly happy playing with those too!)
Thanks!
Cyndi

A one year old would sooner play with a cardboard box than the toy that came in it! She can't appreciate the thought or effort that goes into a gift, nor does she understand a "birthday". I'd suggest winter clothes in a larger size, books that will last through the years (you can get ones that have her picture and name inserted into the story), or something for her room that is maybe beyond your budget. Go with something practical--she's too young to appreciate anything else.

When my daughter turned one we got her the Little People Magic Sounds Doll House. She loved it! Also, we got her the Parents drum/musical instruments set at Target. That one was a hit with her and all the 1 yr olds at the party. She is 17 months now and still loves to play with them both. Byt the way...at 1 yr old...they don't know if something is new so finding stuff at garage sales and on cragislist is a really great way to save money. Hope this helps!

I do infant toddler daycare and these are hits for boys and girls:
the little tykes shopping cart
outdoor playhouse
tent and tunnel
play kitchen and toys
Fisher Price Little people anything (BIG fan of FP here)

If you have tons of toys already, your folks could always put some money in a college fund for her or take you guys on a family outing to the zoo or the park. When my youngest turned one in March we didnt buy him a thing. He never knew the difference. :) We put that money towards a professional photo shoot instead.

Playskool Busy Ball Popper! My brother gave my twin girls one for their first birthday and they loved it (still do at 2yrs). It has a large, easy to push plunger/button to start the music and the balls pop out and go back down the ramp, run throught the inside (visible through the see through plastic) and pop back out again. The balls don't always fall back onto the ramp and the girls have a gigglefest chasing after them! You can even get replacement balls (5 for $4- goolgle ball popper replacement balls for form) It comes in bright primary colors or pinks and purples.

My girls loved play (plastic) food, pots, pans. I got them a tea set, (wont ever do that again....WATER EVERYWHERE!!) and a "kitchen" I made out of boxes. They got to finger paint on it, they had a blast.

The younger one was 1 the older was 3 both had fun though.

I agree most with Nancy's answer. At that age, they really don't care. We think they do, but they don't.

Our daughter's now 2, and she's showing preference for girl's toys, but a year ago, she just wanted to play with whatever she could get her hands on which was usually something of her older brother's.

The shopping cart, a riding toy for outside, a toy stroller, Little People toys, blocks, first dolls, etc.
You've received a lot of good recommendations from the other responders.

Since our families are both out of town, we started taking our kids to Toys R Us, Target, etc. and taking pictures of the things they liked with our phones and sending them to the grandparents.

Good luck!

I sell Discovery Toys and we have some that I highly recommend for a one year old girl. They are fun, educational and will definitely hold her interest. Plus, we are having a big sale this month and all three are discounted! The sale ends this Sunday, Aug 15 so tell your parents to shop today. They can buy these and any other toys at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao

Castle Marbleworks - I know it says age 2+, but trust me, this will be a hit now. There is no reason to wait another year: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...

Measure Up Cups - a very versatile toy. The cups nest, stack, stamp, work as cookie cutters, teach numbers & counting, colors, patterns, and more! http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...

Go Go Caterpillar - she will have a blast chasing this toy around! http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/esuite/control/product?P...

Happy first birthday to your little girl!

When my girl turned one, she really liked books with flaps she could look under. Also, she received a baby and stroller. Loved it!! Hope this helps.

A toy stroller for her dolls. I never would have thought to buy it, but someone bought it for my dd, and it was truly a hit. She also still loves it at age 3!

My 16-month-old daughter loves her Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Tea set, books, riding toys or push toys (has a plush horse rocker and her brother's riding fire engine, as well as a baby stroller), busy ball popper, baby dolls that she can hug, and a Leapfrog "fridge farm" magnet set (multiple types of these available).
She is now also getting into "cooking" at the play kitchen we have.

We had the Learn & Groove Table and another similar toy when she was just starting to pull up (7+ mo.), but she doesn't pay attention to it anymore.
