I'm considering traveling by Amtrak bus and train (it's a bus for 2 hours, then a train for 2) with my DD, who will be 28 months at the time of the trip. Have any of you done this? Curious how this would work with a carseat, since most buses don't have seatbelts. I need to take the carseat with me so I have it at our destination. Just looking for a shared experience. Thanks Mamas!

Hey friend! I was just wondering if there is anyone you could borrow a carseat from when you get there? It would probably make travel WAY easier... and with as many people as you know where you're headed I'm sure someone would lend you one. Either that or, if she's legally allowed to use one, have someone pick up a $20 booster from Target or somewhere to keep there. That way you would have more hands free for the luggage and the kiddo!
(How silly is it that I just answered your question here when I could have just called you? tee hee!)

You'll love the train. No need for a carseat and plenty of opportunity for her to get up and wander around. There isn't a restriction to stay in your seat when you're on a train, unlike an airplane. We just did a 6 hour Amtrak last year and wish it was easier to get places via train :)

i just got back from a trip to nyc/virginia. we took our 19 mo old (and 13 week old) on an amtrak train from nyc to dc and he loved it! as soon as looking out the window got old we busted out sesame street dvd's on our portable dvd player. i also had new toys in a backpack just in case. i had my 13 mo old in her car seat but my 19 mo old just sat in the seat w/ no seatbelt. sucks but you end up not thinking about it. there are a lot of companies online that you can rent baby equipment if that's easier. most hotels have cribs and strollers. as we traveled i had my 13 mo old wear a monkey backpack/leash. beats the fussy screams to get down, out of a stroller, etc. i know some people look down on the "leash" but i don't at all...he loves it and safety first! i got it at target. oh and if you have a lot of stuff just tell the conductor you need help and they will have an amtrak employee w/ golf cart waiting. so great!
