Hello!
My name is C.. I have a wonderful Mom who would like to go to Barbados on a family vacation. She is older and has been the best Mom, very sacrificial, and constantly serving and loving others! She rarely asks for anything . I would like to grant her request , but no one in the family has a lot of money to go on a trip like this.
Expensive air fare is the main issue.
HAS anyone tried the travel guide advertised in Mamasource entitled,"My Airfare
Secrets?" Does anyone have any other good travel saving ideas about getting airfare less expensive? We have a good hotel that is inexpensive that we can stay at there.

Go through a travel agent; they can get you a deal when you put airlines, hotel and rental car in a package. We were amazed when we took our kids to Disney World. They were not pushy but let us make choices.

Also airfares are changing rapidly...if you check sometimes late at night or even during the day when most people are at work, you may get a different rate. Just keep checking back frequently unless you get a price you like, then grab it!

Go ahead and look for deals on airfare, however, any international flight is very expensive. An alternative is to take a cruise to Barbados. Would that please your mother? Getting there by a cruise ship would be much less expensive. I don't know if you can leave from Houston or Galveston - check into it. Otherwise, you'll just have to pay for airfare to Florida, which will be much cheaper than flying to Barbados.
Regarding the trip, definitely see a travel agent. They have the advantage of having "been there, done that." And regarding your wanting to find a church in Irving, I have two co-workers who attend Heartland Church in Irving, pastored by Dan Dean (of Phillips, Craig & Dean)and love it for themselves, and their families.

For airfare I usually go to Expedia or SideStep and I am also signed up for airfare alerts through Delta and American Airlines. They send out messages for airfare deals if you are ready to fly with a weeks notice or so.
As for a family friendly church I really recommend the Christian church I attend. I am sure that there is a branch in your area. I joined the church about 9 years ago and I am so happy that I did. I have gained a stronger testimony of Jesus Christ and of the divine worth and potential of every human being. I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I love serving Christ every day as a mother, the most important job I could do.

There has been some confusion in the news lately linking this church to the polygamist group in Texas. I can assure you that they are NOT AFFLIATED. :-) I am my husband's one and only wife. ;-)
I love The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jesus Christ is central and the focus on the family is wonderful. They have children's sunday school starting at 18 months and there are classes for each age group all the way up to adulthood. It is so much fun!

Have you looked into Irving Bible Church? That's where we attend and we love it. Lots of fellowship, plus I believe they have a homeschooling group too. I don't know about teens, but you should check and find out.
